Truevisions loses EPL
I was a massive 9 baht out, glad you pointed that out. I was with True for as long as I can remember. It did what it needed to (as long as you were on cable, if you had a dish it would go off when it rained). My internet quality seriously deteriorated last year, many complaints to them, they came out once or twice and said "it's fine". It wasn't, it was slow and unreliable. And I was paying around 2,800 baht a month. I had friends who would complain about True but I always said they're fine.......until mine went south and they showed little interest in making it better (I think they knew then the end was nigh). So then I installed AIS fibre and had been running both for six months maybe and AIS is literally light years ahead in terms of speed and reliability. As mentioned True would not let me unsubscribe only from the internet which gives off bad vibes for a company - they know they have you as they know you want the football, even though I was Platinum for maybe 15 years, it counted for nothing. I said fine, downgrade me to the slowest cheapest internet you have but they wouldn't change my package. And then when you finally decide to bite the bullet and cancel it all entirely they make it as difficult as possible asking you all sorts of questions, then making you traipse to their office with all the boxes and cables, and then hit you with additional fees. it felt ugly. I know Monomax is untested, but it will be taking the exact same Sky Sports feed as True did so can't see how it will be any worse or different. Bein has been seamless so far. Time will tell but I am not worried. -

Crime French National Arrested in Bangkok for Child Exploitation
A post not in English removed. @scude102 reminder rule 16. English is the only permitted language anywhere on ASEAN NOW, except within the Thai language forum, where using Thai is allowed. Short Thai translations of technical terms are permitted in specialty forums. While we make allowances for members who do not speak English as their first language, we expect everyone to make an effort to post in a manner that allows others to understand their posts. As an international forum we have members from many countries in the world, and English is not the first language of every poster. -

Thai - Cambodia Conflict Temple, Territory, Tensions: The Roots of the Thailand-Cambodia Border Fight
Very good summary, but I think the Treaty was 1907, and it included the 11 map set which defined the border. There is little doubt in my mind that Captain Bertrand was deliberately tricky in diverting the border around Prah Vihear, but there was no-one watching him. Not only did the Siamese not send surveyors they didn't even send observers, and they accepted the 11 maps drawn up by the French and issued them to foreign governments and local officials (all from ICJ Court documents). Then before the ICJ in 1962 they tried to claim that (i) they hadn't agreed to the maps, even though they were attached to the Treaty they had signed, or (ii) they didn't understand that the line had been drawn in the wrong place by Captain Bertrand. Since it was 55 years later it is hardly surprising that the ICJ basically said, you have left it a bit late to claim the maps are wrong. Now we are left with the incredible difficulty of defining an inernational border. To do so on paper is quite easy, by darwing a line such as the 49th parallel, but then it is quite hard to define that line on the ground. Today we can do it instantly with GPS, but back in 1907 when they only had theodolites it was very much more difficult. That was why the Joint Border Commission opted to change it from a line on a map to follow geographical features such as a river or a mountain ridge. That is much easier to identify on the ground, but very difficult to draw on a map, and also rivers do move with time. Throw into the mix a tricky French surveyor being left to his own devices by the Siamese surveyors, and you have the current mess. When there are two parties, and one says "the border is here", while the other says "No it isn't, it's here", there is unlikely to be any agreement, which is why someone like the ICJ is necessary. I am quite sure Thailand would have accepted the ICJ decision if it had been in their favour, but it wasn't, so they didn't. Just bad losers. In the end, an agreed shared zone for the land which has changed hands over rmany centuries may be the best solution, but the nationalists probably won't allow it. -

Any military experts here?
The gliding bombs, as example can't been carried (yet) by drones. They still use figher jets, as after the drop-off a sharp curve must been made to stay away from air raid defence systems. Next step (maybe!) might be Fighters which are secured by drones flying next to them. The russiand at least are trying to develop such systems. I guess the chinese and the US too. It's yet too early to stop producing fighter jets, but I am sure there will be significant changes in modern warfare. P.S. No military expert, no facts, only my personal oppinion.
