The Phuket robbery that wasn’t

PHUKET: Chalong Police spent hours today trying to make sense of a story they were told by a 33-year-old British man who reported that he had been robbed by three foreigners early this morning.

Daniel said that he was in a bar in Chalong at about 1:30 this morning, drunk, when he was accosted by the three men, whom he described as large, muscular and “probably martial arts exponents”.

He said woke up later in front of “a commercial building” on Chao Fa West Rd and could not find his cellphone or his money. His black Toyota pickup truck was nowhere to be seen. He concluded he must have been robbed, and went to the police.

Police were sceptical, however, so they did some checking. They looked at CCTV footage from a camera at the commercial building but saw nothing untoward. They also took a sample of Daniel’s blood to see whether he had perhaps been drugged, in addition to being drunk.

Other officers visited a number of bars in the Chalong area trying to locate the one he had got drunk in.

Outside one of them they found, neatly parked, Daniel's black Toyota pickup. Inside, the bar staff were holding onto Daniel’s phone and money, which he had apparently left on the bar.

His wife was called and came to pick him up. Before he was allowed to get in the car with her, however, she gave him a good whack over the head.

Excellent Police work. A well deserved thumbs up for once.

Driving a pickup, hm. So most likely he is an expat. Some of these expats really give the Thai wife a hard time. A forum for Thai ladies with a farang partner would bring up some interesting stories.

Is not going to happen. I will use my veto.

martial arts exponents???

Ah, I got it:

Judo2 = Sumo

for the mathematically bemused in this context:

drive by shooting = tangential killing

What no pics? coffee1.gif

What a tool, can't hold his liquor and has to make up stories to save face. I thought it was an Asian thing not an Brit / Euro thing.

This dumb is lucky, cause his bed-time story is a crime in West.

Would he be sued for filing a fake crime report , which usually is a punishable offence? And would he be presented with a bill for wasting police time? smile.png Or would it be dismissed with a mai pen rai ?
