60 Day tourist visa at the Airport

Featured Replies

Can I ask for a 60 day tourist visa when I land at the airport in BKK from the US.

No chance mate... sorry! 30 days you will get unless you apply for a visa in your home country..

Nope. You don't actually apply for a visa at the airport. Unless you have a visa already in your passport, you just fill in an arrival card and they rubber-stamp you for an automatic 30-day stay. There is no chance to get anything else. Have to apply for a visa at home, or at a friendly Thai consulate somewhere outside Thailand, for that the norm is 60-days.

A 60 day tourist visa is only avaiable at a consulate/embassy outside of Thailand. You can apply for one in the US before you come.

If you come without a visa, which you can, you will get a visa exempt entry good for 30 days stay. It can only be extended for 7 days in Thailand but you could do a border run by land and get another 30 days since you are from the US.

However, if you intend to use the 30 day visa exept entry, the airline that you are using might not let you board your flight if you do not have a ticket exiting Thailand within the 30 days!

You should apply for a tourist visa before leaving. You can apply for it by mail or in person at the embassy in DC or one of the official consulates in LA, NY or Chicago. Or at one of the honorary consulates in person that are listed here: http://www.thaiembdc.us/dcdp/Thai_Consulate_Directory2.

There are a number of Visa Run companies that will help you get a tourist visa when you are here if you cannot do it before you arrive. It requires traveling to a boarder by van or bus and spending the night outside Thailand. The boarder run company will take care of everything for you from lodging to meals to visa application. Total cost believe is around 5,000 baht for everything or 1,000 more double entry (like getting two 60-day Visas). I think currently there are problems with doing tourist visas in Cambodia and most companies are going to Laos ... price is from Bangkok.

A 60-Day Tourist Visa can be extended another 30-days at immigration office in Thailand for 1,900 baht. If you get a double entry this would be the same but then you would need to do a border crossing at the 90 Day mark to activate the second 60-day Tourist Visa which can be extended also another 30-days.

There are also a number of companies you can use to just make a day trip to the Cambodia border to do a quick exit and entry that would get you an additional 30 Day entry permit assuming you have a US Passport. From Bangkok cost is around 2,000 and they will handle all the paperwork and feed you lunch. About an 8-hour round trip and they run every day.

Not sure if I can include links to a few reputable Visa or Boarder Run companies here or not but send me a private message if interested.
