Cheeky Farang Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Derek has kindly offered a “get-together” at his house on the 30th July, and I know that there is going to be a falang style BBQ on the go if the weather holds good. Time has yet to be confirmed, but I would think Miday-ish onwards. He and his family will also welcome those who have children (In my case a BRAT) Are you going to make it? - Please let us know in the Poll, and post here to let us know. Cheers and hope to see you there, and BTW it's my 50th Birthday (well the nearest get together date anyway) so dont forget my pressy CF
Ken Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I'll be there with "pressy" . Most likely coming single, but still working on convincing the wife to close the beauty salon for a day. Difficult to get her to commit to these kind of things. Could bring a "date" I suppose. See ya there.
PeaceBlondie Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Last Sunday of July is the 30th, so the poll has been corrected.
Ken Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Last Sunday of July is the 30th, so the poll has been corrected. Hmmmm. That's interesting. I hadn't noticed that the poll said Sunday and I have always been under the impression from previous threads that the "party" is on Saturday the 29th. So Cheeky or Derek, what is the correct day/date?
ThaiRanger Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Will be there either day with the misses. Should we bring some pot luck? Thai Ranger

I hadn't noticed that the poll said Sunday and I have always been under the impression from previous threads that the "party" is on Saturday the 29th. So Cheeky or Derek, what is the correct day/date? It was always intended to be the last sunday of July... So the date is......SUNDAY 30th JULY kick off MIDDAY. Format of party to be decided soon... ThaiRanger not sure what you mean by pot luck......
Ken Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 "Pot luck"....ha ha, an American term I guess. Kind of like "a dish to pass". Basically Al is asking should he bring anything besides "pressy" for Cheeky.
ThaiRanger Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Deveklev Sorry an American thing. When you are invited to someones BBQ among friends you usually ask if there is anything you need to bring as an extra side dish. (Veggie Salad, Potatoe salad, deviled eggs, chili corn on the cod CHIPS (CRISP) and dip, etc) Just want to do my part. Will get with Ken and bring some marinated chicken and a small side dish of something. Of course plenty of beer will be put in my pickup just to even the load. Looking forward to meeting everyone and having an enjoyable day Thai Ranger PS I lived on Guam for quite a few years and we had plenty of fiesta's (BBQ's) most of the Guamains and Filipinos brought aluminum foil and bags to cart off as much as they could. The regular response to the question "Can I bring anything? was "Beer, friends and no aluminum.

ThaiRanger Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Ken The Filipinoes who say no problem except they like the brown dogs better. Thai Ranger
Cheeky Farang Posted June 14, 2006 Author Posted June 14, 2006 Well looks like we are going to have a few of us there So I rekon the "pot-luck" is the best idea. I am bringing the gas fired BBQ, and a massive Cheese-Onion Potato pie to go with the meat and salad. The problem I had last time I made the cheese/spud pie I couldn’t get the Thais away from it they loved it the Greedy Bastards. So from me Cheese/Spud pie (made with English Cheddar) Jacket Spuds & Butter Pork chops/loin (non marinated) and of course BEER So who's bringing a nice salad, and if you shout now I can bring real mayo over with me from the UK (Helmans) BTW - Ken, Spuds = Potatoes ( I know you Americans fall short on the English Language ) See you in a couple of fortnights CF .
Mobaan Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Ok ,I voted . Its me and the missues. W'll zip by on the motocy. I of course know Korat ,but where is Non Thai Korat? Will spread the new to some friends here in Udon ,maybe there will be more of us JAY
ThaiRanger Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Cheeky Cheeese, Onion and Spuds (Potatoe) Pie Sounds to me like the the Thais will be challenged on that this time. I am getting hungry already but you should never eat on an empty stomach so will have plenty of the Chang & Heineken. Thai Ranger

I am getting hungry already but you should never eat on an empty stomach so will have plenty of the Chang & Heineken. Thai Ranger TR - I like the idea of eating on a full stomach, it helps the food taste better. When you see Ken ask him about my cooking, he has many a bruch/meal at my gaff and he has lived to tell the tale. ( well he looks half alive anyway ) As for the Cheese/Spud pie sounds like I had better make two of them. We can always keep them warm on the BBQ, and you can stand guard to keep the Thais away and tell them if they dare touch they are in a world of pain. CF .
Ken Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Cheese/Spud pie (made with English Cheddar)BTW - Ken, Spuds = Potatoes ( I know you Americans fall short on the English Language ) See you in a couple of fortnights CF . Spuds is an American English as far as I know...so there! And Cheeky your cooking is delicious and looking "half alive" is better than looking half dead...no?
jayenram Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Looks good to me CF. I'll think of something to bring (in addition to beer, of course) and post it later. Cheers
dereklev Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Looks good to me CF. Cheeky is bringing a gas BBQ with him so that will take care of the Farang food. I am sure the Thais will be well catered for.... I will post more details and a map in the next 10 days or so.
Jeff1 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Derek , if you would like to borrow my " Weber " charcoal bbq grill let me know . It's closer to you than I am at the moment and tastes so much better than gas . That way I can be there in sprit .

Hi Jeff, an idea, why don't we take both BBQs that way we will have plenty of room to keep the cheese/spud pie's and the jacket potatoes on the gas and you can cook on the real thing. Subject to Dereks approval, but I thought he would be aok with this as it make his life easier. What if it's pissing down allday ? do we get one of the Thai awnings on standby just incase !!! Cheers and see you all there at 12.-12,30 FALANG TIME CF

So we have have plenty of cover should it piss down all day...... Will you be here on the 30th Jeff? Your post seems to indicate not.
Jeff1 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 No , sadly I will leave for BKK on the 24th I will see you before the party tho .

At this very moment, my wife and I intend to attend and would like info on staying at a hotel locally that is convenient. As we will be arriving via bus from Chiayaphum, and I haven't been in Korat since 1972 and only then twice to give dispositions against two of my RTArmy guards that served with me at Sriracha Thailand, (and to participate in activities at the "Chicken in the Basket" locally there), I'd like some suggestions to 3-5 star hotels that would suit our needs AND be convenient walking distance to say the Big C or other shopping. There is a 50% chance our 23 yr. old niece, that just graduated from Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University might be joining us for our planned 2 nite stay. (Arriving on 29 Jul, departing on 31 Jul), and if someone could be kind enough to give us a lift to the party that would be a GREAT plus. I look forward to meeting you one and all. I'm hoping to establish social relationships that will lead to our making frequent trips to Korat and suppliment/replace our many trips to Bangkok. Hope to meet/see y'all soon. Cheeky Farang Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Hi Ken, try the Rachaphruk Grand Hotel, situated in Nakhon Ratcharima's heart, The Bus station is only 200 metres and is on the main road through town. Close to the Mall, Big C, Makro etc etc. Price is about 1200 a night ? , get your Mrs to call them and check Tel.044261222 http://www.rachaphruk.com/En/aboutUs.asp I will put you in contact with someone I know who is coming to the BBQ, he has wheels, and hopefully room to take up to 3 of you. PM'd you with contact detail for the lift.
