coconutbar
I'm more interested in the story of jumping off at a random train station.... If you want to tell us op? woke up on a train headed to god knows where with a bad changover and just decided to get out . I bought a coconut from the nearest vendor and walked around with my Thai phrasebook practicing Thai. A family even put me up in resort which was just a room on a farm With geckos and rats for room mates . It felt good to know that falang is still a novelty in parts of Los. Popular Post CharlieH
In my experience, ANYWHERE thats not on the tourist trail, then you find genuine friendly people. They havnt been corrupted or perhaps polluted is a better description.

Yeah I know those types of resorts in rural Thailand. More like a last resort. Chang over....

CroBiker
The friendliest people I encontered were in Yala of all places. Rode in from Malaysia on my bike first time in 1995 and been visiting ever since. Phuket, where I live right now unfriendliest by far.

Popular Post Just1Voice
Prior to my stroke, I used to take bike trips all over northern and northeast Thailand. I loved the small towns and villages between the big cities because of the friendliness of the people. I've had so many good things happen with these people that it would take a small book to tell about them. I love these people.

Popular Post spidermike007
Most Thai people are open and friendly, compared to the rest of the world. If you get out into the provinces, most are warm, and curious, and kind. I have traveled all over this lovely land, and have experienced that time and time again. Of course I travel with my Thai girlfriend most of the time, so that helps. But, even without her people are nearly the same. Kind and helpful. Open. Very responsive to a warm smile, even if there is little communication. I love this country, for traveling to the provinces.
keestha
Narathiwat Town, 1993. My Thai at the time was still rudimentary, and of course these people didn't speak much English. But positively everybody wanted to talk to me, I wasn't left alone for a minute. Was overwhelmed by the friendliness of those people, but I ended up going into the most expensive hotel in town and having a coffee there, just to be alone for 20 minutes. Popular Post siamsomjit
I find most people to be friendly at most places i've been last 7 years. Friendlyness not to be confused with thrustworthy. I found most people not to be trusted. friendlyness i cheap. trust you might find to be very expensive. when you dont depend on the people here you might have a great time everywhere. Isaan is ok in this matter i feel.
Ozybear
Nong Han for sure, constantly waved passed road blocks when the locals are stopped and fined. I once stopped anyway and bib says, don't stop, we don't fine farangs here. Love the place. Been 5 years in and out and the bib seem to wave to farangs and enjoy the wave back. Popular Post stickylies
every part of thailand has its FRIENDLIEST side. i can't speak for soi cowboy or walking street in pattaya or the likes but IMO most places off the main trail are winners. some weeks ago i ended up in some sleazy david lynch'ish (wild west) little town in nakhorn si tamarat province. it was well after 1am. the whole town was asleep/dead except for one backroad with a couple of brothels and a restaurant still open. had a great time there with some of the gals (laos), lowkey badass guys (guns included), local politican and the old "hear nothing see nothing say nothing" couple running the restaurant. we all shared food, beer and bills. after 3 hours of some nihilistic - but very friendly - fun i hit the road again never to look back. the middle of nowhere in thailand is my favorite habitat. often very friendly, often a little odd (after midnight). just keep your eyes open and use common sense at all times. just like you are supposed to do back home. stay safe.

Hence, I don't get tarred with the same brush as bunch of obnoxious dweebs just visiting. I mean who would want to visit Sena, y'know?

khunpa
In Nana, Patpong, Soi Cowboy areas, you will find extremely friendly Thai-people who all want to get to know you. I guess that is why that have placed many hotels around that area and why so many tourists hang around there... ;-) That must be the friendliest part of Thailand! elzach
LOS in general is the friendliest place in Asia...genuine smiles all around, trustworthy people who don't care the very least about the baht in your pocket. Come to think of it, "Thailand is BEST", as some Thai author said on a tv program the other day (and as I'm sure it's repeated constantly inside many Thai brains). Now, as participants in this thread, do we get any special treatment from TAT?
