Popular Post webfact
POLITICSThaksin 'ready to sacrifice family' butThe NationNoppadon says former PM wants his rivals to adhere to law, so country can move forwardBANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is ready to "sacrifice his family" by ending its political roles so the country can emerge from the ongoing political impasse and move forward, his close aide said yesterday. However, Thaksin wants his political enemies to adhere to the rules and laws, according to Noppadon Pattama, Thaksin's legal adviser and spokesman.Noppadon said he spoke with Thaksin yesterday morning."He is not the root cause of the country's problem. The problem was caused by the failure to adhere to the rules and the failure to respect the people's decision [at the ballot box]."He is ready to sacrifice for the country and to have his family end their political career so that the country can move forward."But other people also must be ready to sacrifice. It's no use if he ends his roles but Suthep still sends the PDRC to interrupt the election," he said, referring to Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC).The PDRC shrugged off Thaksin's latest offer."Our goal is to get Thaksin into jail. We don't care who will get out of politics or not," key PDRC leader Thaworn Senneam said.Thaksin's offer came as the embattled government led by his younger sister Yingluck faces mounting political pressure. The caretaker prime minister is being investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Commission for alleged dereliction of duty over the government's loss-making and corruption-plagued rice price-pledging scheme. She is also accused of malfeasance in a case being heard by the Constitutional Court in connection with her transfer of National Security Council secretary general Thawil Pliensri.Thaksin, who left the country shortly before the Supreme Court in 2008 sentenced him to two years in jail for abuse of power, has been in self-exile overseas. He is believed to be pulling strings behind the scenes at the ruling Pheu Thai Party. The former PM made remarks recently that were viewed by political observers as moves to "test the water".Earlier this year, Thaksin reportedly said he would have Yingluck step down as prime minister - a report that was later dismissed by Yingluck.During the recent Songkran holiday, Thaksin insisted that the Shinawatra family would remain in politics.Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said yesterday that he believed Thaksin wanted to return to Thailand in order to spend the latter part of his life peacefully in his home country.Surapong also said he recently met a foreign fortune-teller who told him Thailand would become peaceful again after this month.Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said people in the Shinawatra family had the right to be in politics and nobody had the right to prohibit them."The Shinawatras have the right to be in or out of politics. But if you are in, you should comply with the law and are ready for scrutiny," Abhisit said.He said that to ensure peace in this country, the law must be respected."That means Thaksin should accept the [2008] court ruling and come back to get the penalty," the Democrat leader said."He may seek royal pardon later. He has the right to do so."In a comment, Abhisit, who is Yingluck's predecessor, said yesterday that when Thaksin wanted "justice to be served" in exchange for his family to end their political roles, he believed that Thaksin was referring to a pardon for himself."When he talks about this, things seem to boil down to the issue of amnesty for himself. This is the main problem," Abhisit said.A government-backed bill for blanket amnesty to people involved in recent political conflicts led to widespread public opposition that prompted Yingluck to dissolve the House of Representatives in December. Critics and the Opposition alleged that the bill was mainly aimed at benefiting Thaksin.-- The Nation 2014-04-22

Popular Post Ricardo
He wants rivals to adhere to the law? Yes, that struck me too, someone who has absconded from one two-year sentance & has several other cases delayed, due to his failure to appear in-court to hear the charges, nevertheless feels it's somebody-else who must obey the laws ? It would be hilarious, if it didn't lead to so many problems, for the country. When will the former-Pm accept any responsibility, for his prior (or current) actions ?
Popular Post rijit
So now he's finally confirmed he's been subliminally running things , and now after all the awful things he's had a hand in, he expects people/ Thailand to play by the rule's?, and i assume he means by that to forgive him and allow him to return to his homeland ie forgive and forget? Is the man mentally ill? However, I do agree with him on one thing , he is not the root of the problem. the root of the problem is the horrible disparity between the Thai rich and the Thai poor. Popular Post ianf
Sociopaths are unable to accept responsibility for anything. Others are always blamed by these people. I am sorry but Thaksin is mentally ill and the cause of all the problems here in Thailand. The guy is a monster and should be removed from all influence if he cannot remove himself. What ruddy arrogance to demand that others respect the law when he has done everything he can for so many years to flout it. Not only Thai law, but international law too. I'm fed up of this man who ruins so many lives and I am fed up of those sycophants here who support him.

ezzra
I think he got to the conclusion that he can muddy the political waters better being in the country rather than be an outcast, and that his cronies, as willing as they are, are simply doesn't do the job properly and as the proverb goes, if you want a job well done, you have to do it yourself, but once he will be back, he will do his outmost to delay and put any obstacles possible not to go to jail using any tricks and money he can come up with....

slapout
About the only thing this fellow has going for him is he seems to be leading Kittyrat in the ''lie'' count. Noppadon seems to bask in seeing his name in print and associated with a inside track to his boss. His legal expertise on rule and laws of Thailand are questionable, due to the legal perdicment his boss finds himself in. He apparently has knowledge of a lot of criminal activity but a complete '' Gomer '' in finding solutions or ways out of illegal problems/situations. Some would describe him as the perfect, '' 2 bit lawyer''

Popular Post Costas2008
"Surapong also said he recently met a foreign fortune-teller who told him Thailand would become peaceful again after this month." This is the mental state and ability of PTP, starting from the liar criminal in exile, followed by our caretaker PM and all their relatives. They have no ability to govern this country so they go to fortune-tellers for help. Please, Mr Thaksin take your self and your relatives, away from governing this country, before you destroy Thailand completely.

Popular Post Roadman
Keep the foot on Thaksin's goolies and keep pressing hard. Bottom line is there should be no pardon nor amnesty for Thaksin for the garbage that he has dragged Thailand into. He has more charges awaiting him and they need to be served the same as his lackey's have been dealing it to the rest of Thailand.

Popular Post coma
The man is pathetic. One can see how pathetic he is by the way he has used / destroyed his young sister for his own objectives. I have a sister and I couldn't bring myself to put her in harms way for any personal agenda I may have. He would do well to just keep his mouth closed and continue living the current lifestyle he is living.
Popular Post scorecard
Is there really anything of substance in his latest comments? "Noppadon says former PM wants his rivals to adhere to law, so country can move forward" With this statement the paymaster is of course implying that he / his party / parties always comply with the law and everything they do is morally correct. In reality nothing could be further from the truth with dozens of examples. No doubt the old 'I have done nothing wrong...' line will be trotted out again soon. "BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is ready to "sacrifice his family" by ending its political roles so the country can emerge from the ongoing political impasse and move forward, his close aide said yesterday." Not mentioned is whether the party will continue, and I suspect we can assume it will continue. So please tell us khun paymaster, who will run / who will finance the party? Or will you reconstruct the party so that it's a genuine party relying on policies, not wealthy backers, to get votes and will have policies which have equal benefits for all and policies which gain a scenario whereby a very large % or all Thais can have a good quality of life through their own productivity and policies which are affordable, all with no attempts to get bills for massive spending through parliament in such a way that there is no transparency. Or will it be another get rich quick club run from the masked back room? And how can the public be assured, with proof, that your family are no longer involved in any way at all? In fact the words "sacrifice his family" could just mean that his family would keep a low profile but from the back room still be making all the decisions and pulling all the strings. In more simple terms. Given your track record, who would trust that your not just changing your clothes but under the mask your still totally in charge, with as always a gang of paid 'yes' men doing the implementation? Plus is "sacrifice his family" just your tricky way of trying to get an amnesty for you? Edited April 22, 2014 by scorecard

focus27
I have always thought that the Thaksin-Redshirt alliance was one of convenience rather than ideology. Assuming there is any shred of truth to this report, it would not surprise me if the foreign backers of Thaksin were to ditch him and lend their support to some other politicians. This cycle is going nowhere and there needs to be a clear and uncontested victory for one side. Anyone who can gain the support of the Lanna-Isaan swathe of the country will most likely be in government. The current regime has, yet again, failed to saddle the country with chronic debt - one of the key pre-emptive strikes on the road to 'liberalisation', privatisation and resource-theft. Thailand will never be a 'good ally' unless it allows itself to be plundered. Just look closely at what is happening in the Ukraine, beyond the military exchanges there has been a huge debt-for-resources scam. I don't think the battle in Thailand is a 'normal' democratic politics about merely managing the country, but more about who ultimately controls the resources. That this conflict even exists seems to indicate that Thailand's elite are unwilling to relinquish their control to the globalists. For how long can such a relatively small country hold out? I'm not sure that repeating the 19th century policy of accommodating all sides will work again.
