Does anyone know of a good shop in the greater Phuket Town area that (dry?) cleans curtains?

My wife seems to think you can't just take them apart and toss them in the washing machine, thus we need to pay someone with 'specialist knowledge' (at great expense, presumably).

I know nothing about this topic, so any useful advice/recommendations on curtain cleaning will be much appreciated. Do they really need to be dry cleaned?

Thanks for all your help; trying to convince my wife that it wouldn't be the end of the world to try one in the machine on a test basis.

At the risk of stereotyping, I always find it strange how wasteful 'the locals' are (wife included): ordering more food than they can eat, never turning off lights and other electrical appliances, insisting on running the air all night even though the weather is perfect for sleeping...the list goes on and on...

When I was a kid I was always told 'finish your spinach, think of all the starving kids in Southeast Asia', then you get over here and it's like a Vegas buffet...

Wash them one at a time on gentle cycle, hang them back up where they came

from to finish drying, look and hang great

My set actually has two curtains: a light one that permits sunlight and a second, darker one with a chain running across the bottom.

My wife is freaking out about the chain; the situation has taken a turn for the worse...

Anyone had experience with how to take such a chain out? It seems to have been sewn in permanently.

My curtains have some sort of weight sewn into the bottom. We just put them in the washing machine. Washed many curtains many times over the last 16 years. Always look great after washing and hang out to dry.

If the curtain comes out of the machine clean and OK, I can predict your wife will not admit she was wrong, but she will just put the other curtains in the machine herself, as if nothing happened.

She didn't bring up the possibility to do the washing by hand?

Actually I had to abort the mission at the last minute as we have some potential renters coming to look at the house.

Your suspicions are very valid however; she always hand washes stuff that could easily be handled by the machine, such as all my daughters clothes...
