Prices of instant noodles increased

BANGKOK 29 April 2014 (NNT) — Instant noodles makers have increased the prices of their products due to the decrease of sales.

According to Association of Thai Wholesaling and Retailing president Somchai Pornratanacharoen, some instant noodle companies have increased the prices of their noodles due to slower sales in the instant noodle market.

It is likely that the rest of the producers will increase their product prices on the back of rising production costs. The prices of instant noodles have increased by 25-50 satang per pack; however, under the present regulations, each pack will have to be sold at no more than 6 baht apiece, Somchai said.

A slower economy and the increase in the cost of living have prompted the public to spend less of their income on consumer goods — affecting the sales of instant noodles in turn.

Mr. Somchai has called on the government to quickly address this issue in order to allow more competition in the market, adding that he hopes a new government could soon be formed in order for the country to move forward.

This noodle price news will probably be more important to most Thais than the ongoing govt protest and scandals news. Noodles fill your stomach but politicians just fill your ears with BS.

Gee you missed a good opportunity , you where on the right track though, politicians just empty your pockets. cheesy.gif

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen. Thai business strategy and culture in one perfect sentence. He wants more competition. How dangerous is that. We have been privy to 6 years of street protests because some new kid on the block upset the apple cart.

I.would expect open war of someone p*****d on Mamas market.

Sales slump pushes prices of instant noodles

BANGKOK: -- Instant noodles makers have increased the prices of their products due to the sales slump.

The Association of Thai Wholesaling and Retailing president Somchai Pornratanacharoen said some instant noodle companies have increased the prices of their noodles due to sales decline in the instant noodle market.

I had to laugh at the "Thai Logic" when I read this. People can't afford at this price, sales go down, so, hey, we'll RAISE the price.

Amazing Thailand.

It's consider money saving food if somebody have no money ' mama' is the best choice last time excuses were given for palm oil, salary, petrol increase to raise price do you know that neigbouring countries Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar import huge amount of instant noodle .

Slow down on spending should increase cheaper items like instant noodle sales volume not down ward .

Yep, nobody wants to buy my car, so I increased the price, that'll show em!

No see it different, than it makes sense.

All the car seller before sold 100 cars per month. Now it dropped to 75 cars.

So you meet with the other sellers who are anyway your buddies and together you agree to double the price for cars.

The sale will further drop to 50 cars....but everyone will make the same turn over than before and even a lot more profit.

That works until some bad foreigner enters the game and makes a lower price.....But on cars there is a huge import tax to prevent that.

Same on beer.

The response to reduced demand is to put up the price and call for more competition in a regulated market. The logic baffles me.

Somebody needs to teach Thai business people about marketing 101. When the Asean group kicks in next year, somebody has the opportunity to clean Thailands clock.

When the Asean group kicks in next year, somebody everyone will have has the opportunity to clean Thailand's clock.

"A slower economy and the increase in the cost of living have prompted the public to spend less of their income on consumer goods — affecting the sales of instant noodles in turn."

Okay, let me get this straight: People currently don't have not as much money to spend on "consumer goods" including instant noodles. So in order to compensate slower sales, the solution of this problem for the economic wizards at the instant noddle company (a.k.a. executives) is to CRANK UP the price?

Sometimes the mind just boggles.
