Getting a single entry to have time to get under wifes visa

Featured Replies

Hi guys so I am recently married to a fellow Canadian. All papers are in order both Thai and Canadian. I have been here about 5 years off and on. My wifes school will do the work to get me on her work permit/visa so that I won't have to visa run. The school needs me to have a single entry 60 day to have the time to get the paper work done. I was going to go to KL but I see that's hard as well now. I have two doubles from Laos from previous years so that's probably off. Any advice on where to go? Thanks in advance!

Unless your wife has an extension of stay based on work an extension based on dependency will not be available. A non "O" visa would be required if indeed your wife is on an extension of stay

Suggest you check that the school really understands what is being attempted.

She's on a non immigrant b.Been with the same school 6 years. It's our understanding that I can be on her visa as a spouse.

As you wish !

Clearly you have confidence in what you have been advised so go get the tourist visa !

Laos will not be a problem for a single entry tourist visa.

Sorry I wasn't saying you were wrong I was just clarifying what visa she has. Laos is still giving singles no problem to everyone?

You will get a single entry TV in Laos !

No problem

There's a difference between a visa obtained at a consulate abroad and extension of stay given by immigrations within Thailand.

A non-Immigrant B visa will give the holder an permission of stay for 90 days per entry.

Extension of stay is given by Immigrations within Thailand and for extension based on employment it's usually for one year.

If she has extension of stay you can get matching extension from Immigrations as a spouse.

One of the criteria is to have a non-immigrant visa (in your case non-O), that you can get in Laos.

You will need to bring copies of your wife's passport with the extension, copies her work permit and the marriage certificate.

Thanks for all your help. Last question then I won't bother you anymore! would I get one just as easy in Laos if I went by myself by flying rather then using a visa run company?

Immigration will not do a change of visa status from a tourist visa to a non immigrant visa entry.

You will need to get a single entry non-o visa when go out of the country. You will need the original of your marriage certificate plus a copy and copies of your wife's passport photo page and her extension of stay stamp.signed and dated by her.

Your choice . Apply in the AM receive passport/visa next day PM.

Check for any holidays which may affect the Consulate.

I hope you read mine and the post before yours.

You can get the non-o visa in Vientiane Laos without a problem.

You fly to Udon Thani and then take a van from the airport to the bridge in Nong Kai and the to Vientiane from there. Nok Air offers a fly/ride service to Vientiane via Udon Thani.

Clearly some of my TV colleagues are a lot kinder than me !

I was happy for the OP to follow the "advice" received from the school.!

Shame on me sad.png
