Thai ATM card problems in Malaysia!

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just for info...

Thai banks (well at least Kasikorn) are currently forbidding use of thier debit and Credit cards from being used in Malaysia.

It left me in a sticky situation in KL airport last weekend when I couldn't get any money, I tried 2 debit cards and 2 Credit cards and was only trying to withdraw a modest amount (like 4000 Baht)

I called Kasikorn and they said that they do it automatically on advice from police because of skimming fraud, after going through security proceedures and telling them how long I intend to stay in Malaysia... They re-activated my card and all as well.

Don't get caught short...

Addition: Swiping in a store was fine, its ATM withdrawals that are affected.

Just wanted to point out that Malaysian ATMs doesn't deliver cash after midnight ... not that this is the reason in your case, but I just wanted to point that out ...

Does calling the bank in advance of your trip prevent this problem?

I am guessing it would... UK banks do the same thing automatically, but normally only when you try and withdraw more serious amounts of money without telling them in advance but not for a measly 4000 baht!

I didn't know that, but when do they start delivering cash again? I suppose any time of day is after midnight.

Not true, can withdraw cash anytime. no restrictions with UOB card.

I did on Monday around 2 am, and not in KL, a more rural area near Seramban. Never had an issue with all my years going to Malaysia.
