Transfer of VISA to new passport at border or immigration?

Recommended Posts

You should have the stamps transferred at your local immigration office where you can also obtain the re entry permit unless you prefer to get that at the airport.

The problem is, that I will receive my passport at the embassy, my local immigration office is at Ayutthaya, most likely, I'm not sure if I have the time to go there anymore, as I have to catch my flight, if they allow me to do everything at the airport, I will go straight to the airport.

I appreciate your problem but, as stated, the extension of stay can only be transferred at the immigration office.

If you can convince your embassy not to cancel your old passport, you could get the re-entry permit and exit on the old passport. You can then reenter using both passports and transfer the extension stamp on your return.

Otherwise, you may be stuck.

They will not turn him away at the airport due to the stamps not being transferred. They will only transfer the permit to stay from the last extension and he will still need to go to immigration to complete the transfer when her returns.

Getting the re-entry will be more complicated than normal since he will have his extension in the old passport and they will need to do the re-entry permit in new passport.

Trying to get them to not to cancel the old passport will not work. He would be stuck using the passport or departure and entry. Then getting stamps sorted out at immigration might be a problem using two valid passports.

That means I should apply for a re-entry permit at my local immigration, in my old passport and let them transfer it in my new passport at the airport, when I return in August they should transfer my extension in my new passport, am I right ?

If you go to your local immigration office for the re-entry permit they will do the stamp transfers before they do the re-entry permit. If you get your stamps transferred then you can retire your old passport.

At the airport they would only do a partial transfer of all your stamps when you leave the country. You would still need to go your local office to complete the transfer.

Most likely I won't have the time to go up and down to my local immigration on Thursday, so when I don't have my new passport on Wednesday, I will get a re-entry permit in my old passport, and let the officers at the airport transfer that one to my new passport, so I will keep my old passport with the extension stamps in it and let them transfer it in my new passport when I come back.

If you get your re-entry permit in your old passport before you get the new one immigration will only do permit to stay stamp equal to when your extension date and stamp you out in the new passport. Then you will show both passports on entry to the country to use the re-entry permit in the old one.
