the bangkok frown

Featured Replies

whats with the thais having frowns glued to there face in bkk these days i feel like a black in the 60s in newyork sometimes the way they look at me.

Were you wearing any clothes?

TAT new slogan - Thailand - Land of Scowls - I know this one has been done to death BUT - I think that the long drawn-out political impasse - almost 8 years now with no end in sight, coupled with a very long, hot summer, rising food and fuel prices, grumpy taxi drivers etc. are getting a few people down - but there are less frowns and more smiles at the end of the working day than in the morning- well at least that is how it appears to me. I don't think the frowns are meant for you particularly.

Probably the heat. Two mornings running now there's been thunder but no rain.....sad.png

Heat, protests, traffic, plummeting economy......

the next day after a long weekend you were expecting smiles? welcome to earth.

If it's scowls you want, try living in the non-touristy Thai south. Strewth!

this.

Well the rain has arrived in my area at last clap2.gifclap2.gif the collective sigh of relief could he heard for miles around. I expect plenty more smiles tonight.

Perhaps it's just you, or just me, but I get smiles most of the time, indifference the rest of the time.

Ever wonder if it is just you?

Ann and i were in BKK on Sunday and she told me she did not see any one smile.Must be real for a Thai lady to notice.

iv'e been living in kanchanaburi over 2 years now i smile at people but never got one back, if fact i have never exchanged words with any thai people in that time even though i tried to make small talk, rarely any eye contact even, very sad place

There are big problems ahead, the red shirt/yellow shirt, Thaksin, Yingluck, STOP Bangkok protests etc etc are nothng compared with what is coming. That's probably why there is a frown. Cup half full, cup half full.
