Non Immigrant B visa and work permit in separate passports - possible?

Featured Replies

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could advise me please.

I got my 90 day single entry Non Immigrant B visa today. I have now realised that I don't have any entirely blank pages left in my passport. I'm a UK passport holder and have found out we can't get extra pages added. So I know I'm going to have to apply for a passport renewal here in Bangkok, but what I'm wondering is if the Non Immigrant B visa will be valid for obtaining the work permit, as they will be in different passports? Or will I have to go through the process of getting the B visa again when I get a new passport?

Many thanks in advance

The visa remains valid. You keep the old passport to show the visa and have the entry details transferred to the new passport when you get that one.

All the Non Immigrant 'B' Visa and 90 day Non 'B' entry stamp in your passport do is to allow your WP to be issued, providing all the WP application paperwork is correct.

Thank you, I originally thought the work permit just came separately and wouldn't need it's own page. It's just the lady at immigration said something about needing a blank page for when it's transferred. In which case, is it possible for me to not get a new passport and just keep this one, as I still have space for stamps, just not empty pages? Sorry if this is a silly question just want to confirm to save myself a small fortune and more hassle.

OK I think you edited it out about the work permit just coming in a separate book...

The WP is a book from the labour office. To be issued with it you must among other things have the correct visa.

Yes, the Work Permit is a completely separate, blue passport sized, booklet, I edited this part out, because I thought that it might confuse you.

Nowadays, Labour does not make any Work Permit related entries/ markings in your passport at all, they just check your visas/entry stamps or extensions..

The lady at immigration may have confused you, possible she was talking about potential future extensions of permission to stay, but these can be in the new passport - no problem.
