Bpuumike
They also seem to be popular as 'retro' with the younger Hi-so crowd - check out the Vespa Cafe on the RCA strip along from Tops Supermarket.
Steiner
The reason those Vespas can take so much weight is the suspension. it was previously used on WWII Italian unmanned target drones and was designed for heavy landings. As the originator of Vespa owned that company he grafted them onto the scooters. Look great if restored but those tiny wheels on Bangkok roads, ouch! I drive a scooter to appointments almost every day and I have learnt the dangers and the lack of comfort of tiny wheels, would love one for the looks, wouldn't dream of having one for the wheels. YipYipYa123
There's a Vespa workshop on Ratchada soi 17 that only work on Vespas. The shop is always overflowing with them. I live there and I've never seen any around bar China town where they seem to be all congregated But bkk is full of old scrap yards you could never find in a million years of you didn't know what you were looking for I found a place by accident that was full of ancient European cars from the 60s, 70s and 80s everything from jaguars, mercs and beamers and even some original style vw beetles from God knows when.... No idea how he pays the rent unless he owns the place but whenever I pass he's usually working on different cars so there must be a niche market that know where he is and driving these kind of cars etc..
