Jatuporn, Weng to opt out from next election

BANGKOK: -- United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship chairman Jatuporn Promphan and red-shirt leader Weng Tojirakarn announced Thursday that they would not contest the next election.

They said they would focus on fighting for democracy with red-shirt people so they would not contest for a House seat.

Jatupon is head of the UDD so it doesn't look good for Thaksin when a Party List MP starts ranting and raving about violence.Much easier for Thaksin to shrug him off as not being connected-

Thaksin always likes a multii prong approach to get what he wants a legit political party, street protestors/ rioters, bribes-lunch boxes to judges, etc

No doubt Jatupon will be well paid in his fight for Shinawat supremacy.

So we have one that says its lack of spine, the other that now they will be arrested with no immunity. Can the no brain section of this forum please make up their minds?

I have a third option. The 5 year bans of 2008 is gone for a lot of Thaksin allies. There might not be room for Jaturporn and Weng in parliament anymore.

Besides these two, there's no mention of the other ten Red Shirt Leaders/Pheu Thai Party MP's, so presumably they will be Party-list MP's again.

Not any places in the world that terrorist and criminals have the option to contest an election. Amazing Thailand indeed.

Really? Try the Sinn Fein/IRA bombers in Northern Ireland. They're in Cabinet posts, for God's sake.

Try South Africa, over half the parliament were terrorists and some have even committed crimes such as gun running, rape and a few other things while serving as MP's

But I thought they said democracy was all about elections.

Or maybe they've seen the undoctored opinion polls and realize the PTP game is up?

If this is meant to affect a kind of face-lift for Pheu Thai, it won't do much of anything, though it is more likely that this sends a signal that the UDD is going to get tough, because Jatuporn - as head of the UDD - will insist on remaining visible. Proof positive also that Yingluck was essentially at the mercy of all who advised her is the fact that since yesterday all the signals from Pheu Thai remain exactly the same - going after the Constitutional Court and acting unilaterally from the hip. One must take, though, a step back and realize that the Pheu Thai administration is now essentially in a dingy being battered by tumultuous seas. They've nominated a prime minister by means of nothing found in the constitution - a prime minister who now oversees half a cabinet, who has no legislative power, who has no parliament, and who has no public mandate.

Then again, they might consider standing on a UDD-party slate, and abandon the listing/damaged Shinawatra/PTP ship ? whistling.gif

At least he will have the time to look for the driver of the van carrying priceless artifacts that lost all 4 wheels in front of his house. If he's lucky the amulet owner may give him a reward.

UK excepted where a convicted terrorists can be elected to Parliament and hold positions of power in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Aw, daddy (Thaksin) couldn't bank roll their campaign funds? Perhaps daddy knows that he'll be wasting his money on two clowns. He rather use that money to get his whole clan out because the S^#*T about to hit the fan.

So, without parliamentary immunity and given the bail conditions, should theoretically be behind bars again, soon.

"......be behind bars.........."

I imagine this is what Chalerm and a few other characters would consider being behind bars
