Extension of Stay Based on Marriage - When to Make the First Visit?

Featured Replies

Several years back when I started doing the yearly Extension of Stay based on marriage to a Thai national, the guideline/rule was to make your application for extension ("first visit") within 30 days (or as close to 30 days as possible) of the expiration of the current stay.

Now that the 30-day 'under consideration' period does not start until the expiration date of the current extension, is there any requirement, or advantage, to applying 30 days early? Or is it just as good now to make the application nearer to the expiration date, perhaps a few days before?

Thanks in advance....

You can do it when ever you want to during the last 30 days of your extension.

All my 30 day under consideration periods (6) have started from my permit to stay date.

Going later just makes the wait shorter. I normally do it about 2 weeks early.

Thanks Joe,

I believe that perhaps my second extension of stay the consideration period was from the time of my application to the permitted to stay date. I think the subsequent extensions (I have done 7 so far, counting the initial extension) have all been 30 days from the permitted to stay date.

I'm in the same situation, but tis is going to be my first extension. What paper work is required ? I know the financial requirements.

Unless applying in Bangkok you will 2 completed TM7 forms with attached photo and a set of signed copies with each one of them,

Marriage certificate (have the original with you)

Kor Ror 2 marriage registry updated recently.

Wile's house book.and ID card. (have original with you)

Copies of your passport photo page, visa, entry/permit to stay stamp and TM6 departure card.

Photos of you and your wife in and around the house, One must include house number in photo.

Map to your house.

At some offices for first extesnion you may also need a copy of the affirmation of permit to marry you presented to the Amphoe when you married.

If your wife has been married before you may also need a copy of the divorce decree.

If not living where your wife's house book is for you will need proof or residence. (rental agreement).

Bank letter confirming bank balance and copies of bank book or proof of income letter from embassy.

Under consideration in Pattaya last week started from the application. Same last year, before it was 30d from end of previous extension.

Is this the letter from the embassy?

I would not call it a letter. It is the document you submitted to your embassy to confirm you were free to marry that they endorsed.
