Pick up my paperwork from the school for my first Ed Visa next week and have to do a run to activate it. I know Laos is easy but wanted to go somewhere different. Anyone have any recent experience with doing it in Vietnam (HCMC), Bali of Phils would be other preferred options.

I wrote about it a few years ago, perfect, easy, polite, convenient and as far as i'm concerned the best place to do it.

Ho Chi Minh city is the one I like the best, but Hanoi is not at convenient but still the embassy is just as easy to deal with.
