Non-Immigrant O Visa for female

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the forum and hoping to get some advice.

I am an Australian female married to a Thai National. I want to live in Thailand and am trying to sort out what visa I should get.

I was going to apply for a one year non-immigrant O visa (based on marriage). I have no work lined up, but was hoping that if I find work when I am there i can apply for a work permit. Then I would extend my visa for one year without requiring visa runs?

I spoke with one company about possibly coming to Thailand and they advised me I would have to leave the country to get a non immigrant B visa instead of O. But I thought I could get a work permit on an O visa and want to confirm this??

Also, to extend I believe I will need to find a job that earns me at least 40 000THB and prove this. I also want to confirm this is true. I did read somewhere the extension requirements are different when it is a foreign woman married to a thai man, as preferred to the other way around- wondering if anyone has heard of anything like this and can help me??

It is not long until I leave and really want to confirm I can apply for a work permit if I get offered a job on the O visa, and if I can apply for an extension of one year (if the job I get pays me 40 000THB?)

Lastly- we were legally married in Australia. Do I need to register this marriage in Thailand or something in order to extend visa based on marriage? Or will the original Australian marriage certificate suffice?

Thank you in advance for all your help!

You can get an extension of stay based upon your marriage to a Thai, No financial proof will be needed because he is a your husband. The 40K baht number is for marriage a Thai lady.

You should apply for a single entry non-o visa which would allow you apply for the extension.

You can get a work permit and work with this type of extension..

You will need to register your marriage here at an Amphoe. You will need to have your marriage certificate translated to Thai and have the translation certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. When you register you marriage they will issue a Kor Ror 22 that you will need to show immigration along with your marriage certificate when you apply for your extension.

Thanks for your reply, really helpful. So I dont need to feel the salary requirement to exten to one year, but does my husband need to meet requirements??

Thank you:)

I, also being the Thai husband, can confirm that once a year I turn up with my NZ wife to immigration. So long as they confirm I have a pulse and a marriage certificate then the extension is granted for a year. Actually it is a bit more than that, mainly photos of you two in every room of your house, a map to your house and his ID card.

There is no income requirement shown on the police order clause. Some offices may want to see a small amount of income.
