Court issues arrest warrant for Jatuporn to attend a hearing

BANGKOK: -- The Ratchadapisek Criminal Court today (Monday) issued a warrant for the arrest of United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) chairman Jatuporn Promphan after he failed to show up before the court without proper reason.

Jatuporn’s lawyer, Mr Banyat Chartmontri, told the court that his client was afraid to show up for fear of his safety and, therefore, he asked the court for the hearing to be postponed.

Jatuporn is on trial in a defamation lawsuit filed against him by Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva. The UDD leader was said to have accused Mr Abhisit, then prime minister, of ordering the killing of red-shirt protesters in May 2010 and blocking the attempt to seek amnesty for fugitive prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra while addressing red-shirt crowds during October 11-17 in 2010.

Abhisit’s lawyer rejected Mr Banyat’s request for the postponement of the hearing.

The court then said that Jatuporn’s claim of concern for his own safety was unacceptable and was deemed a deliberate attempt to delay the case. It issued an arrest warrant for Jatuporn with an instruction to his lawyer that he be brought before the court on May 26.

I would have thought the lawyer would have requested the Court to postpone any defamation hearing until AFTER they know whether Abhisit is actually guilty of anything or not.

Jatuporn should produce evidence that Abhisit ordered the killing of red shirts.

He did not completing fabrication evidence, he need more time whistling.gif

As we all know ,even the UDD leaders are not above the law although you would think their counterparts , the PTP think they are, these court judges are not going to take Sh!!t from anyone , so the quicker these people realise that the better, who knows Jatuporn might have marked he's calendar wrong ,seeing the busy schedule he has lately, however when it comes to appearing in court very few excuses are allowed , one being skipping out of the country. bah.gif

Could be a good chance for him to put his money where is mouth is and surrender himself - sadly I don't see much chance of that happening.

Then again it is a libel lawsuit we are talking of. Not exactly a jail-worthy offense, except in Thailand apparently.

I think he is busy.

Call back later.

PS. PAD has been busy since 2008.

What court hearings have the PAD skipped?

edit: that they didn't eventually attend. PAD cases are going through the courts.

I predict tonight or tomorrow night a grenade will be found outside the house of the judge who issued this warrant, swiftly followed by a statement by the UDD that they are seeking justice and are not trying to intimidate people

I could keep up with what was going on before, but I am losing track today. Seems like everybody either has a warrant for their arrest, is breaking bail conditions, threatening violence or refusing to speak to anybody.

No sympathy for anyone involved. Everyone deserves the mess they find themselves in. The politicians, the police, the army, the protesters and even the public. Getting closer to complete anarchy.

Finally a court got smart to the PTPs excuses for not showing up to a hearing. Every PTP that has had a recent court case scheduled to be heard has come up with am excuse not to be there. The exception i think was YLs last hearing.

Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I would think that this would be tantamount to contempt of court, which must surely represent another breach of his bail conditions...!!
