pinkpanther99
An English guy who lives hear me is always hanging outside 7/11. This guy also goes in our local gym, where I've chatted to him a couple of times. He's friendly enough, late 40's and has spoken to me in the past about "going down 7/11 to see who's about". And everyday on my drive home from work, there he is, sitting on his motorbike (which is parked and has its engine turned off) outside 7/11. This guy is from Middlesbrough originally, maybe the people of Middlesbrough do most of their socialising outside of convenience stores? I don't know but it all seems very strange.

coldmike
When first coming here I avoided 7-11s like the plague cuz they represented western culture at its worst, BUT I soon learned they are different in Thailand. Not overpriced like in the US or stocking garbage I'd only eat after a long night bender. They're actually great convenience stores here, but have never thought of hanging out there, or can even imagine why one would want to. Now, I have hung out at neighborhood mom & pop convenience stores here to chat with the workers or owners, but that's different... I hope.

kurnell
I got kicked out of my local MaxValu store this morning at 6.30 am because the manager insisted that it was 5.30am and the store was not open yet, despite the sun having a very different opinion. Even when I returned 5 minutes later with the Tag Heuer showing 6.35 she insisted that her Hello Kitty digital watch was correct, and that Tag and the growing line of people outside the store were wrong. Amazing Thailand.
Nautilus05
Ummm, I have to admit, hanging out at a 7/11 never occured to me. Now a mom & pop shop who have tables and benches outside on the other hand, sure, have hung out there loads. Most times have someone with me, but sometimes alone. That's different though, because those mom & pop shops actually want you to sit there, and drink beer (more sales for them). That's why they have a table or two setup outside of their place. Estrada
OP, Leave my stuff alone. I don't pay their wages to chat and lough around. They have a job to do. Not, The Management. Once again, beware of Greeks berating gits! A month ago you were complaining that people in supermarkets will not talk to you, and now you complain that these "gits" talk to others. One tip! Although there is a spell check you still have to check the English, I think you meant "Staff" not "Stuff" and "lounging" not "lough".
bangarang
Always hangout there. Sometimes me and my buddy chill around 7-11 drinking some beers. SOmething about it is very inviting. Also the staff seem to know us quite well as they see me almost every day.

They can't afford a drink/beer in s bar/restaurant so they buy it at 7/11 and sit outside Edited May 26, 2014 by larsjohnsson

Popular Post ccarbaugh
There have been times when the only female interaction, (aside from the commercial, bar-girl ones,) have been the little Sweethearts working in the 7-11. Although I do my best not to perve at them too much, I have seen some absolute angels working in some of them!
BobbyL
The majority of workers in 7/11 look like they're in a casting for the Thai version of The League of Gentleman. Even the simplest of questions is met with a 'ugh'. That said, there was a very nice looking bird who worked in the one on my soi. I've not seen her for ages though, sadly.

Work up slowly to 40 minutes. After that, you will need a work permit. 'nuff said ~

For a newbie like you who doesnt want to be seen as a newbie, 2 large Changs, just so it can be seen you aint a newbie, make sure you drink them using a straw. After that as the pack accepts you, you will pretty soon have made it to 4 large Changs. Do be aware to make it to the Holy Grail or inner sanctum of motorcycle taxi drivers may take at least a few weeks, you can circumvent the normal waiting period if you spring for a couple of bottles of "seua dam". Make sure not to be seen eating such crap as farang food, luk chin and som tam are the way to go, make sure to eat using your fingers, this will enhance your acceptance and reputation. This time next month you will be a seasoned pro wondering what all the fuss was about. Be aware of the side effects, the Changover from hell, and you may end up speaking some sort of pidgin English even the 7 girls wont understand, no worries you will be fluent in pasat motosai.
