Transit Visa

Featured Replies

Searching this already but most info out of date, Maybe a dumb question but never done this visa before!

Am I right in asuming that to get a Transit visa (which I will qualify for) you have to go to the Thai embassy for example in Vientienne and fill out the form and this cannot be done at the border crossing ?

Correct.

But if you really ned a transit visa depends on your nationality. Many nationalities do not need a transit visa.

Why do you want a transit visa.

From Vientiane website. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/en/consular/consular_check/

Transit Visa

This type of visa is for applicant who wishes to enter the Kingdom of Thailand and travel in transit through the Kingdom to his/her country of origin or the third country of destination.

1. validity of visa is 90 days
2. visa fee is 800 Baht per entry per person
3. duration of stay permitted upon arrival is 30 days

Documents required - confirmed travel document or air ticket to the country of destination

Just covering my ass if they again use this 3 stamps in 180 days rule. Hopefully won't need one but-

Ok, I'm in Cambodia where I stay and have visa for here that lasts unltil Nov.

Next month I have to enter Thailand (coming overland) to fly to UK from swampy.

In 1 month more I come back BKK. (So far up to Aug 12th flying in not counting for visa stamps?) I go up to Issan where i stay one month (same every year)

Then go Laos for few weeks.

Then back entering into LOS for 2 or 3 weeks stay before heading back Cambo.

I might want to come to LOS again before 180 days is up for mates wedding.

They will not be bringing back the 90 days in 6 months rule and even then your total stay would not be 90 days.

Looking at your travel plans you should not have a problem using visa exempt entries for your trips.

If you went to Vientiane it would best to spend an additional 200 baht and get a tourist visa rather than the transit visa,

I don't see a problem with the normal visa exempt entries, as it is clear you do not stay continously in Thailand. That is what immigration focusses on.

Thanks for the answers!

Sometimes what I read on some threads throws me off balance, but seems to be written by folk who only heard rumours from scaremongers and never supply tangible evidence. Some don't know the difference in the tourist visa and the visa exempt stamp! But then the government and immigration are never clear in what they do when they decide to change the goalposts!
