Work permit advice please

Featured Replies

Hi all ,

I have been teaching at a school up country for the last 3 years. It's a small school in a rural area and before me they had never had a foreign teacher, so when it came to work permits they pretty much asked me to deal with this myself so for the last 3 years that's what I have done. Now for some reason this year I just completely forgot to go get the work permit and my contract is now 2 months old. I would go and do this tomorrow and say I am sorry I just forgot but I have to go to Laos on Sunday for the annual visa run (non-o multi - married) so I won't be able to give them the passport and now I have just read the back page of the expired work permit and it states I could get locked up and have to pay a fine before being kicked from the country. Has any one here had or heard about anything similar and can offer up some advice on how to approach this situation?

Thanks

Dave

I would just go to Laos and get the new visa. When you have the visa, you go to the labour office and sort out your problems with them. In all likelyhood they will not make a big problem out of it, escpecially if someone from the school joins you.
