just a quick question, i think i saw this answered somewhere before but now can't seem to find it. my mom wants to go make a non-imm "O" visa in penang based on her retirement pension (she's over 50). does she need to show the letter of the pension / amount on the bank totaling 800,000 to the consulate in penang or only once she extends it at the bangkok immigration?

Unless things have changed, no she does not need to. That said, if she has the relevant documents at hand, it may be wise for her to take them and copies along 'just in case'... :o

If she is here on a tourist visa 60 day entry she may not need to travel as that can be changed by immigration for retirement. If not she should have the bank passbook with 200k or so on deposit with her when trying to obtain a non immigrant visa. She only needs a single entry visa and if she has a problem just a tourist visa will be enough to start the retirement extension process (but an extra step would be required).
