ED visa that will expire before my flight out of country

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have a 3 month ED visa that expires August 10th. My flight out of this country is August 12th. From August 8th on, I actually won't be working/studying, so there's no reason to try to extend my ED visa.

Question is, what should I do to extend my visa so that I'll be able to stay until my flight?

Thanks!

You can apply for a 7 day extension, pay 1900 baht and get 7 days to leave the country at immigration.

I am located in Chiang Mai right now. How do I do this? Where? And by when? Can I do it now? Will I have to leave the country? And if it matters, I'm an American citizen.

You go to the local immigration office to apply for it. You can do it a few days before you leave. You cannot do it now.

There is no need to leave the country.

I can't do it now, so a couple of days prior to it expiring. And this is possible, even with an ED visa? Will it be a hassle (or cause the raising of brows), or this is commonly done? From this website (http://www.thaivisa.com/applying-for-extension-of-tourist-visa.html) it seems to apply just to tourist visas, which my original visa isn't.

I've located the immigration office in Chiang Mai.

It can done for any visa entry or extension of stay.

They are routinely done. It is a way for immigration to give people a few extra days rather than overstaying.

For the reason of extension, is citing my flight situation sufficient? I mean I also want to do extra traveling that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to because of things involving my ED visa.

Flight scheduling is a good reason.
