If you don't have the 3 million baht for the investment visa, have you considered other lower cost countries to enjoy your retirement? For examples, with a decent pension you could legally stay for life and sometimes own land in: Mexico, Panama, Belize, Costa Rica, and Argentina. If you love Asia, many stay in the Phillipines on tourist visas for years. You might want to check out www.RetireAway.com for information on retirement visa details for various nations, though it is geared towards Americans.

Hi Thaiquila,

>>> Does any one know if its possible to get a retirement visa under 50 years of age??

A friend of mine is less than 40 and he now has a retirement visa and working for a Thai company!

>>> Im ex british forces and was Disabled out with back trouble...

Hearsay reckons that you can get a 'Retirement visa" if you have a medical condition which you can prove that it is essential for you to live here. The one that springs to mind is about not being able to stand the British inclement climate.

Half the battle is having suffient funds but you need someone to process this on your behalf . Don't hold it against me if your application is refused and fee not refunded.

Malaysia has/had a 'Silver Hair Retiremnt Visa' which is worth considering also.

The information in the above post is very strange. You can not obtain an extension of stay for retirement under age 50 and you can not work on any retirement extension of stay. I believe the 40 year old has something other than an extension of stay for retirement. I ask poster if he has verified the extension of stay stamp says retirement? And he has a work permit?

Not possible.

Yes.

I tried it out more than one time in "Soi Suan Plu" and other place with 46 and secured disability pension from the State. The answer was clear no you can not! My visa was a non-immigrant "O" multible.

50 is the threshold in my opinion.

It is true that Malaysia has a retirement program for under 50's, but the financial requirements are more difficult for under 50's than over 50's:

The conditions:

8 The applicant must prove a minimum fixed deposit of RM150,000 with any Malaysian financial institution AND have a monthly offshore income equivalent to at least RM7,000 if single or RM10,000 if with spouse.

But if applicant is above 50 years old, he has only to prove either a fixed deposit of the same amount OR a monthly income as stated.

Having a reputable sponsor can be a help. However, this condition is not required if the financial background and status of the applicant satisfies the Processing Officer.
