Getting a Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Newbie to the site, and after reading some of the other threads, I'm glad I found it as I can't find an answer yet... (but then it might be an obvious one..)

I'm currently travelling around Australia with my girlfriend (both UK citizens, 29 & 25 years old), and heading over to S.E. Asia come July and trying to get all my visa information in check...

We are travelling overland from vietnam via cambodia through to thailand, and i've just read about the visa exemption being only 15 days for overland which wouldn't be enough for our plans, so we're looking at getting the 60 day tourist visa.

We've just downloaded and filled out the tourist visa application for when we get to Melbourne as we planned to go to the consulate there. But upon filling it in and getting to the date of arrival, We don't know when we will be arriving as we don't know how long we plan to stay in Vietnam... it could be one month, or it could be three!

So my question is, as a UK citizen, am I able to use the same process at the Thai consulate general in Ho Chi Minh to get the visa arranged? as this is out final stop in Vietnam and would have a better idea of dates...

Sorry for the long post.... But I thought more info was better than less...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Andy

If you do not have an exact date of when you will be leaving for Thailand, it is best to get a visa in Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos, as the validity of the visa is only 3 months. So you must enter Thailand within 3 months of applying for the visa. Cambodia takes a bit longer to get the visa, up to 4 days. But not sure on the specifics of Ho Chi Min consulate.

As a UK national you will gte a stay of 30 days in case you enter by land.

"as a UK citizen, am I able to use the same process at the Thai consulate general in Ho Chi Minh to get the visa arranged?"

I think so, yes.

"just read about the visa exemption being only 15 days for overland"

AS British Passport holders you get also on land border 30 days visa free allowance of stay.

"we don't know how long we plan to stay in Vietnam... it could be one month, or it could be three!"

Tourist Visas issued in the region, have a validity of 3 month until last date you can use them, Visas in EU had/have? 6 month validity until you have to use them, Australia issued ones? smile.png

OP is looking for a single entry visa. That one will also in Australia have a validity of only 3 months, hence the need to apply in Asia.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I didn't know about the 3 month validity so looks like I'd be cutting it fine if I apply whilst still in Melbourne. Thanks very much!

Looks like we'll apply in Ho Chi Minh embassy then.. We plan on staying there for about a week, if not a little longer, anyway so should be ok time wise there...

Good to know we still get 30 days anyway overland too... i've read quite a few sites saying its only 30 days visa exemption for flying in, and 15 for overland...

Thanks again for the help!

Andy

The rule changed last November. Those from the G7 countries get 30 days at land borders.
