Nervous About My Non-imm Ed Visa

Featured Replies

I've been reading posts the past few days with some trepidation concerning non-immigrant visas for Thailand. I currently hold a single entry Non-Immigrant ED visa. It is a 90 day visa granted for educational purposes that can be extended for an additional one year. I have to go for the extension about one month before the 90 days is up; 60 days into it. I am finacing my education from savings that I have brought here from the US after working there for a few years. This money is now in my local savings account here in Bangkok. I will also be getting money from my wife's business (which I incidentally financed the set-up of). My question is: Am I going to get a grilling over where the money I have now has come form, how I will be able to finance my education here, and where the money is coming from? The last thing I need is them asking my wife to come in and show her tax receipts for her income and so on. I'm having an anxiety attack just thinking about this, should I be?

Relax. You won't be. You can even get a work permit with this type of visa. The only concern they will have, is that you are still enrolled in school and not the bars.:o

Ok, thanks. :o

Is it possible to change the Non-immigrant ED visa to a business visa for a one year extension.

No need to change. You simply apply for the extension of stay based on business.

But as I stated before you are able to even get a work permit with this type of visa/ extension. Your Employer would must rather hire you with this type of visa extension on ED than a "B" He does not need to have 4 Thai employees for your extension of stay based on education or pay you the minimum salary for your nationality. Much easier for a student to get a part time job and be legal.

That sounds nice, But my current state is tht I have a non immigrant ED visa and it is about ot expire on the july 15th 2006. I am expecting a job and can my employer extend my visa without me going out of the country. What are the documents are necessary for processing if my employer is the United Nations which I think does not need an work permit for its emploees to work.

Representatives of member countries and officials of the United Nations are indeed exempted from the Work Permit requirements .

As for the paperwork required, your Employer will handle everything for you.
