I'm currently on a marriage visa, but currently trying to decide between changing to either a work permit and work in family business, wife employs me and I would be 49% owner wife 51% owner, so how much tax is paid from the 40K per month salary?

or retirement visa? I have the funds required for retirement visa, but thinking of investing in business opportunity, there for required cash for retirement visa in bank will not be there?

any info greatly appreciated.

Cheers

You can get a work permit and work with a non-o visa or an extension of stay based upon marriage. You don't have to change anything.

I assume you have an extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon marriage since you mentioned the income of 40K required.

You cannot work with a retirement extension.

You can figure taxes using the info here: http://www.rd.go.th/publish/6045.0.html

It would be in the range of 15k to 30k a year dependent upon your deductions.

mate, you are better off staying on the marriage visa extension as once it is set up it is very easy to continue and you can get you wp on it as well. Changing everything over would be a pain and retirement visa means you wont be working, they tried to tell me to go on a retirement visa but the marriage visa was much easier and suited me.

Having considered doing the same for a few years, there are one or two problems I have found with this setup:

For instance, the income will not be accepted in the first year to support the non-o extension as you will not have sufficient tax history. This is not a problem if you are able to continue with the 400k option.

There are reports here on TV that the mix of income and bank balance is not allowed for marriage extension - it must be one or the other.

Timing the WP application with your extension is vital; to get the 1 year permit, the visa or extension validity must be at least 9 months, or else a 3 month WP is issued.

Would appreciate some verification on the above, mostly hearsay so no offense if it's shot down...

Normally only 2 or 3 months of income proof by way of tax payments is needed.

An extension of stay based upon marriage is not tied to the work permit. The work permit is only needed to prove you are working legally.

Work permits according to the rules are not tied to your permit to stay. They should be issued for full year even without a permit to stay valid for full year.
