PHUKET: -- Police have detained a key suspect in the murder of a Canadian businessman who was murdered in Patong in 2009

Francis Alex Degioanni, a Canadian national aged 34, was gunned down in February 2009 in a car outside his home.

Mr Degioanni had reportedly been doing business in Phuket – selling condos to foreigners –for five years at the time of his death.

Police announced they detained a suspect named Nukul, also known as Nu Sae-heng, 28. He is originally from Phetchaburi and was arrested in Ayutthaya on a Phuket arrest warrant.

He is understood to be one of the key players allegedly involved in the murder of Mr Degioanni.

Nukul is now in custody of Kathu Police.

Wow, all of a sudden we are seeing arrests on warrants that have been gathering dust for five years...! It would seem that after the removal of those senior police officers who operated with "the speed of a striking sloth", the word is now trickling down from the top to say "it's time for you all to start earning your keep"...!!

Way to go Thailand... and vive la coup!

They paid for their jobs and got the boot before their snouts were full. A dire warning.

Those cops look like they may struggle if a foot pursuit is ever required...

Yes, they are going to have to pay off their debts somehow.

I'm thinking most will turn to drug dealing, which will cause the island even more problems.

Hopefully they get assigned inactive posts somewhere else like Bkk where they don't have contacts and the competition from police with active commands is intense.
