isanbirder
Amarin Nakorn is pretty cheap; I used to pay 450, but it's possibly a bit more now. Just near this is the Lithai Guest House... which I guess is cheaper.

Diablo Bob
When I used to drive between Chiangmai and Buriram, we used to stop at the Topland Hotel. Not necessarily cheap (1000 Baht/night), but they had a fantastic breakfast and dinner buffets. Well worth the additional cost of the room....... stoneyboy
There are many cheap hotels on either side of the main highway now,if you want to spend a bit more try the Grand Riverside, alternatively search on Agoda and you will find many options as per the below link. http://www.agoda.com/en-gb/pages/agoda/default/DestinationSearchResult.aspx?asq=XqlQ7bJ0pUN0G2iz%2fnzAiGTlEi7hZpfW6%2bOLeLPvfMkXkmcJwh0c%2fdAwG3VQMplt9TnPyKlb5mfzx%2fXUhWbqM8sQXYAcSZxLfcMa6CI8CEk0vybYdWMDZQkv31G%2b2FOC82KcG6nCz2oaKxgd5ECKQnSqFr6iSZdVZiiYhqFIF86Nwd%2f%2f3euMDQlp9%2fEfWCMcnpEaj%2fiaNlkXKqwGqSHoLJiWQxzdwC54%2fu3YSjQBd8Q%3d&tick=635378106225 Edited June 8, 2014 by stoneyboy

One of the better hotels around but seem to remember paying about 1500 baht a night (was for a large double though).

cgphuket
Cheap hotels near the bus station for around 250 a night (air and hot water). But no English signs, so speaking thai helps.
