UbonRatch
My DL was stolen (the pink card), but I still have the old green form (Duplicate Copy). However, I have searched the DVLC high and low to find a way to get a replacement licence, and it appears you can't if you are outside UK. Has anybody had any experience of this, or know any way to get a replacement licence from Thailand? Cheers for solid advice.
Ginkas
Bad news, I'm afraid. Friend of mine lost his UK licence a few years ago and sent off to the DVLC for a replacement. Got a letter back that stated, as he was not resident in the UK he was not entitled to a UK licence. There was even a suggestion that if he was absent from the UK for some time he may have to retake the UK driving test when he returned! evadgib
https://www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence Key Phrase: "If you apply online you are agreeing that DVLA can check your personal data, including your National Insurance number. DVLA will confirm your details with the Department for Work and Pensions and HM Revenue and Customs". https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence Key Phrase: "If you’re moving abroad, you can’t register your new address on your British driving licence". Personally I retain a UK address & will tackle this problem when my licence is up for renewal. HTH Edited June 8, 2014 by evadgib
snottgoblin
Yes, it's not easy to do. I still have a property in the UK so when I needed to replace it, I had it sent there.
TommyTucker
Remember that If you need to renew the photocard licence, you need to supply a recent photograph. If however your passport was issued within the last 5 years, they can use that photo. HTH I am on my way from Australia to spain via UK and Bavaria, I have a permanent address in UK, I applied to dvla to renew my licence on the net, they must have checked because they refused the application, on the grounds I did not reside at that address, any licence renewal must be done live at the postoffice so that photo ID can be physically checked , hence my trip to england
