why get a multiple entry B visa anyway?

Featured Replies

someone next door to me got a job for a year at a school. He got a B Visa along with his work permit. He ended up getting a multiple entry, as opposed to a single business visa...What is the purpose this more costly venture given that the school will probably extend it for a year anyway with the single and if you want to leave the country you just get a re entry permit?

I used to be under the impression that a multiple entry visa was a good choice if you wanted to leave the country over the period of that year, because I used to think that you forfeit your visa anytime you leave the country, I did not know there was such thing as a re-entry permit allowing you to keep the remaining time on your visa valid when you return to Thailand

It is possible that he could not get the required documents from the school to get an extension of stay at immigration. There are some private schools that might not be able to meet all the requirements.

That is the only reason to get a multiple entry visa other than personal preference.

If the school does qualify he could still get the extension if he wanted to.during the last 30 days of any of the 90 entries the visa allows.

Also in case he ceases work or decides to change schools his visa will not 'end' with his current employment, as is the case for an extension of stay.

A multiple will allow you to come and go from Thailand without losing your B-visa. If you have a one year B with a Single entry and leave the country, you will lose the visa on return and have to re-apply for the visa and work permit again.

If you have a 90 day entry from a single entry non-b visa you can get re-entry permit that would keep the permit to stay from that entry valid.

If you have an extension of stay you need a re-entry permit if you leave to keep it valid when you return.

biggest difference;

extension; you only report every 90 day to immigration

Multiple visa; you need leave the country every 90 days

Lose your job?

extension becomes invalid an you need arrange another visa PLUS only valid 1 year

Multiple, no problem, your visa is still valid till it expires PLUS, you can get almost 15 months put or it

whistling.gif Advantage:

A one year Non B multi entry visa that is still valid allows multiple exits and re-entries for that one year period.

A visa is different from the extension you will get for employment.

A visa will stay valid for the term of it's validity ..... one year from when it was issued.

So even if you lose or quit your job after 6 months..... and therefore lose you work permit and extension based on employment, your one year multi-entry visa is still good.

You can stay in country until it expires.

In most cases your extension based on employment and your work permit come to an end when you lose or quit your job.

Unless the law has changed in the past 2 years, this is not true. When your job is terminated, your work permit is no longer valid. The same goes for the visa that the work permit is issued to. You then have 24 hours to get to immigration and change your visa. After 24 hours, the clock is ticking at (I believe) 500 THB per day to a maximum 20,000 THB plus possible prison and/or expulsion.

You are mixing up visas from an embassy or consulate and extensions of stay from immigration.

A valid visa and the permit to stay from it do not end when your job ends but an extension of a permit to stay does.

What? do you guys know what you are talking about? I came in Thailand on a NON, B, Visa ,,,,,,For work and traveling,,,,No work permit No work,, 90 Day Visa runs to Malaysia After 15 months yes 15 ,you get an extra 3 months if you do your last 90 day visa run on the last day of you Visa. Then I got a retirement extension after the 15 months now in a couple months I will go for an other Retirement extension . AMEN to that clap2.gif

Hmm not particularly related but I am not yet old enough for an OA visa, but spending more and more time in Thialand. Eg:

Just under 30 days February ish..

Two, two week stays in April and May

Planned 30 days later this year. So getting close to the 90 day limit.

Who tracks the 90 day limit, when does it run from. and how do I find out how much of my allocation I have used?

Any thoughts/experiences - Thanks

There is no 90 day limit. That went away over 5 years ago when the 15 day entries at border crossings started.

You will have no problem making your next trip.

They aren't talking about what you're talking about.
