Need advice... Kindergarten Teaching requirements

Featured Replies

I'm currently working here as a Prathum/Elementary English Teacher in BKK. I have a B. arts degree and a TEFL. I am interested in pursuing a certificate in Early Childhood Education, part time (over 1-2 years) and online from a college in Canada while working here.

I am working here in my second year as a foreign teacher in Thailand (still kind of a newbie), and so eventually I will run out of renewals on the temperary teachers license (4 years? not sure if its changing...). As I plan to live here for a while, I need to seek international qualifications so I can seek employment in international/private K schools and hopefully make more money in the long run. Currently there is no online distance B. Ed programs from home and I a) don't have the money for another Bachelors degree and B) going back home to study full time for two years is just not feasible right now.

I'm good with little kids and love working with them so why not teach kindergarten. But I don't seem to be able to find any information or job postings for persons with Early Childhood Education certification. All jobs even in Kindergarten schools and International schools seem to list a B. Ed as their main requirement. :/ Can I even get a work permit/ teaching license with this certification? If so, then what kind of salary could a person expect with this certificate, being a female, under 30, NES, TEFL, with teaching experience etc.

All guidance here is appreciated! smile.png

Hi, there is an online B.Ed in Elementary Education from IFUGAO (Philippines) which is recognized by the Teachers' Council of Thailand. It is normally a 4-year program, but is reduced to about 2 years if you have an existing Bachelor degree or teaching experience.

The cost is about 27,500 baht per semester (3 semesters per year), and there are occasional face-to-face seminars in BKK.

PM me for the contact email address of the university's rep in BKK.
