Voice TV, T News now back on air

vt-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Voice TV, a television channel that earlier supported the ousted government of ex-Premier Yingluck Shinawatra, and T News, a satellite TV channel that opposed her, were allowed to go on air again Saturday after both were ordered to shut own broadcasting since the military coup May 22.

Under Announcement No 65, the National Council for Peace and Order allowed the two satellite TV channels to resume normal broadcasting with conditions that their contents must not create rifts, incite public unrest, and oppose the military junta.

The approval for the two channels to resume broadcasting came after the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) endorsed the revised programmings of the two channels and forwarded to the military junta for final apprival.

Voice TV is owned by the Shinawatra family.

Also on the same day, the NCPO issued Announcement No 66 allowing all community radio stations which were earlier permitted to operate on trial basis by the NBTC to resume broadcasting under conditions that they must strictly comply with its regulations and orders of the NCPO.

NBTC to consider to allow Blue Sky and ASTV back on air"

http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/nbtc-consider-allow-blue-sky-astv-back-air/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=nbtc-consider-allow-blue-sky-astv-back-air

What's to discuss? When Blue Sky and ASTV convince the NBTC that they will not broadcast anything the junta doesn't like, they'll be allowed to broadcast the same as Voice TV. From your link:

Ms Supinya Klangnarong, a member of the broadcasting board, said today that if the board was satisfied with the revised programmes which must be free from political programmes deemed defying the coup makers or the coup, the two TV stations would be allowed to go on air again provided that the board’s approval is rubber-stamped by the NCPO.

Don't forget, there are no double standards anymore, it has been decreed.

It seems the NCPO is not as repressive as many Thaksin supporters have tried to claim.

Yes, but it's far more useful to the junta to allow these stations back on air, neutered of any opposition content and then say "look, we allow these people a voice". Anyway, Voice TV was aimed at younger urban people & promoted a range of liberal opinions - it was pro-red but not outright propaganda as some seem to think. Now they've allowed it to be reinstated but without its four news analysis shows. They're apparently allowed to report the news, but not analyse it.

Should you actually want to report on things properly and do your job as a journalist, this is what happens:

This post is not to excuse but to explain. If one is to stage an illegal, unconstitutional coup, one should not half-ass it like the last coup. One should not allow anything to stand in the way of the goals of those staging/running the coup. This coup is being carried out much more efficiently/effectively than the last one and only time will tell if the benefit for Thailand is a greater than the damage done to the rule-of-law/constitutional processes. Speaking only for myself, I am optimistic that the ends will, when all is said and done, justify the means. The intransigence of the opposing parties, pre-coup, had the whole country in gridlock, and the coup, led by this brilliant, fair-minded general. seems to be moving in the right direction which is an orderly/methodical return to a more accountable, transparent, and better civilian government. Just my opinion.

Well... I guess we'll find out. I'm reminded of the Iraq war. Those of us who were against it were often accused of supporting the brutal dictator Saddam Hussein. As though it was all so simple. And now we're seeing the disastrous outcome of that line of thought.

The logic of the coup supporters seems to be:

A is bad

B is not A

Therefore B is good

Even if those who are running the country now really are really as brilliant as you suggest, it doesn't mean the outcome will be as you expect. There have always been post-coup honeymoon periods. Anand was installed in 1991. Most people think he did a pretty good job. Then look what happened in 1992. Wait and see what sort of "reform" they come up with...

I think the OZ channel is banned forever, after the interview, with a so called UDD leader in exile.cheesy.gif
