Phuket girl slashed by machete-swinging boyfriend
Eakkapop Thongtub

PHUKET: -- A young woman is in serious condition in Thalang Hospital after a frenzied attack by her boyfriend, who chopped her back and neck with a machete, known locally as a “sparta knife”.

After a grocery store shop owner near Kok Chana Pama (Burmese Victory Hill) in Thalang, at 10pm on Sunday (June 15), police and rescue volunteers arrived to find 23-year-old Ampornpan Parawet seriously injured with knife wounds. She was also badly bruised.

After dressing her wounds, the rescue volunteers took her to Thalang Hospital, while police tried to piece together what had happened.

The shop owner told officers that Ampornpan had come to the shop earlier to buy beer to drink with her boyfriend, whom he named as “Jao”.

Later the same evening, she staggered into the the shop covered in blood and screaming for help.

Police are now looking for “Jao” on a charge of aggravated assault.

Kok Chana Pama (Burmese Victory Hill) in Thalang

That's a nice place name.

Very peaceful and Buddhist in terms of neighbourly love.

Hopefully the victim will recover fully and her brothers or father bump into Jao sometime.

Being a male, he'll probably get off with it Scot free especially if he claims his frail ego has been hurt as tends to be the standard cowards defence when they use violence against a woman. as above I hope the victims father and brothers run into this shitbag before the coppers do.

When they do catch him, he'll probably claim he had cramp in his arm, or was practising his forward defensive shot after he only made a duck for Phuket 2nd XI but had forgot he was holding a huge knife and she walked in the way....

so, the headlines reads "machete-welding", but then says "knife wounds", and the cops are trying to figure out what happened. Does ANYONE have any actual FACTS???

"...a machete, known locally as a “sparta knife”."

..hence knife wounds. Not difficult to understand really if you possess the ability to read.

I have a Master's in English Composition and Creative writing from a well known American university. I assure you there is nothing wrong with my reading ability and comprehension. I was pointing out the fact of the shoddy writing and reporting. Or perhaps you are unable to comprehend that small fact.

Maybe you should enrol for a masters in common-sense. It's perfectly clear that the headline was designed to shock readers, and the report rectified the actual weapon used. In any event, I hope the boy gets jailed for grevious bodily harm and attempted murder. I hope the girl recovers from her horrific attack.

All the "facts" known so far appear to be already in the above article...

Waiting for all the facts to be known before publishing any article would mean that the printing presses would not be rolling on many days...whistling.gif

I am surprised that the Thais celebrate Burmese victories........... I thought they were taught that Siam/Thailand always won/wins...

perhaps they are getting into the mood for AEC after all......

Not a good choice of words

Journalism on their own style, what ever they feel like writing they just write. appropriate or not, i doubt if they give a damn.

Pathetic scumbag typical of so many males reared in this culture.

Are you referring to the Thai guy who assaulted his girlfriend, or the TV posters slagging off at each other over things the rest of us don't care about.

Incredible young Thai male mentality...treat women as possessions...willing to take young women's lives...rather than accept a lose of face in a relationship...violence...breeds...violence...

I find this hard to fathom....I presume most TVF members to be normal, decent men so why do so many of you demean others in a forum when you wouldn't consider saying that to someone's face?

It's not just you..so many 'contributors' seem to have this gene. Get in front of a keyboard and a different persona takes over.TVF is a tiresome, lonely little place seemingly full of bitter and angry men. I just don't get it.

And for the record, the previous comment was well within the bounds of rational reading.

It makes you wonder which character people really are - the one behind the keyboard, or the one they show when face to face.

They are probably being more honest behind the keyboard. :)

"and her brothers or father bump into Jao sometime." - did it ever occur to you that they probably treat their girlfriends/wife the same way.

Domestic violence is entrenched in Thai culture.

Why is there something wrong with the name

They are proud to have fought back their invaders just as England are proud to have fought back Hitler in Second World War

Plenty of war monuments everywhere in the world

Infact the 2 heroins that protected Phuket were actually woman

Machete - known locally as sparta knife. A dangerous weapon. The young lady has presumably identified her attacker as she was conscious.

The blood loss and pain would be awful - hope she makes a full recovery and that the mental and physical scare heal best they can.

The sudden and extreme propensity for violence is part of the Thai character that's difficult to understand.
