I can't find out the English name for this plant which seems to be a member of the lily family. The young sprouts are delicious and the plant is quite decorative. We also eat the tubers, eatable. post-130198-0-37527400-1403035448_thumb.

A visiting aunt gave us a few tubers. It doesn't seem to be willing to grow anywhere but I haven't worked out why it is happy in our sometimes waterlogged garden and not in the raised garden next to it.

Some comments please?

Hello All, we have it in yard here in the backyard as the landlord father had

a lot of plants at one time. It is growing in a shaded area under some jackfruit

trees, and at times the soil can be waterlogged.

You can start by looking here for the scientific name: http://th.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%B8%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%84%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%84%E0%B8%81

Around here is easily grown, some people report mild allergic reactions.

Here's the English version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amorphophallus_paeoniifolius

"Elephant foot yam or Whitespot giant arum or Stink lily"
