NBTC assures NCPO of digital TV coupon distribution after short suspension

BANGKOK, 19 June 2014 (NNT) –The Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has confirmed that the digital TV coupon distribution, and the license auction for two operators have been temporarily suspended in order to examine the specifications before proceeding.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) Secretary-General, Mr. Thakorn Tantasit, revealed after the National Council for Peace and Order postponed the digital TV discount coupon contribution project, and license auction for two operators in order to re-examine the specifications. NBTC has now submitted the project information to the NCPO.

The discount coupon scheme has received many complaints because of the high discount price of 1000 baht per coupon. It is advised that the coupon shouldn’t cover the set top box; meanwhile, there is as yet no detailed explanation for the delayed license auction for two operators and the Universal Service Obligation Project (USO).

Well seeing as it is a State organisation, I would assume that there have been certain things going on regarding corruption that need to be shoehorned under a very large carpet now that they realise that the NCPO are scrutinizing everything that concerns huge amounts of money moving around.

The coupon scheme is a veritable scammer's banquet if ever I saw one... 25 Billion.... what that money could do for essential services... TV is not an essential service.... Prioritize please.

If a family can not scrape together the one time payment for a cheap set top box (250 baht for a used one)... Then I suggest they go and find work.... Instead of goggling at the box.
