About 5 inches long when walking, yellow tip to tail,1 black dot and 3 white dots on each body segment, large black and white/blue 'eye' marking, light blue/grey and white line on each side of the body.

Maybe a hawk moth caterpillar??

Hawk Moth yes, the question seems to come up every year at this time.

Once after riding my motorbike, I hawked up a moth.

I had dozens of these on a small tree last year. They ate all the leaves in two days then disappeared. Being Thailand, a few weeks later all the leaves grew back and the tree is fine.
