June 20, 201412 yr Charles Taylor wants to serve his sentence in RwandaLONDON - Former Liberian president Charles Taylor has formally applied to serve the rest of his jail term for war crimes in Rwanda, saying his imprisonment in Britain breaches his human rights, his lawyer said on Thursday.Taylor was jailed for 50 years in 2012 on 11 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity over acts committed by Sierra Leonean rebels he aided and abetted during the brutal 1991-2001 civil war.He was the first former head of state to be jailed by an international court since the Nazi trials at Nuremberg in Germany after World War II.A motion lodged last week by Taylor's lawyers with the UN-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone in The Hague, where he was convicted, argues he should be allowed to serve his sentence closer to his family.Full story: http://www.enca.com/taylor-wants-serve-his-sentence-rwanda-- eNCA 2014-06-20
June 20, 201412 yr Popular Post He should have been allowed to serve his sentence at the end of a rope.
June 20, 201412 yr Popular Post Taylors biggest crime is his addiction to breathing. Adding insult to injury is fact that the scumbag is kept at U.K taxpayers expense with no doubt all his legal fee's being paid for by the U.K. taxpayer too yet ex pat pensioners get short changed and defecated on regarding yearly pension increases.. Pity the scum bag didn't consider his abuse of human rights when he was the dictator Edited June 20, 201412 yr by siampolee
June 20, 201412 yr And, what about the families of those that were violently murdered, raped and enslaved, and the families of the young boys that were forced to be soldiers ?? He can rot in the UK. totster
June 20, 201412 yr He would probably have a purpose built prison with swimming pool and other amenities that are only being minimally provided by the UK prison system. If he wants a transfer, I would suggest Russia or North Korea.
June 20, 201412 yr Rwanda would be a less comfortable and cheaper option. Whether or not he can be a jail top gun in Rwanda is of no concern.
June 20, 201412 yr Rwanda would be a less comfortable and cheaper option. Whether or not he can be a jail top gun in Rwanda is of no concern. No. He would be released within a few months of him being released from the UK penal system. Strange how he insists on Rwanda specifically. I would grant him his wish, but would hand him over to a Sierra Leone prison instead. I would give him 2 days max.
June 20, 201412 yr Family values was not of interest to him when he was playing the warlord card. However , I object on his care being at the expense of the taxpayer. Let him go free and shoot him in the back of the head the minute he clears the prison walls.
June 20, 201412 yr I was working in W. Africa when this bastard was on the rampage and in my mind he should never have been given a custodial sentence , rather a terminal sentence. If he is allowed to go to Rwanda , the ex- warlord and murderer Kagame will have him on the streets in a heartbeat - he could however have a fatal accident in transit if right minded people are allowed to escort him to Kigali.
