River Kwai & Tiger Temple

Featured Replies

I'm not going to post too much here, cos there's too many fear mongering idiots who've posted already,

except to say that I lived there for a few years and it's Beautiful the whole province, the people are some of the most wonderful in Thailand, the tiger temple is a sacrosanct place that is well worth making a relatively small donation for, and you will have an awesome time if you go.

Please disregard the fear mongers... half of them are american educated.

Apples Guest house tour desk always did great tours.

Go there and be amazed.

Kayo.

PS> Most of the FEW people who've been shot in Kan got themselves into situations they should not have.

Tragic and sad, but it has no bearing on what you want to do, so disregard these <deleted>.

Agree - Mostly!

However, I must point out that the local bad feeling towards the Tiger Temple is not the fact that the "owners" are buying new cars, it's the fact that they are Monks and promote this as a temple which supports animals 100%. This clearly not the case as too much of the money coming through the gates is being scraped off the top and into the pockets of too many people. In the long run it's the animals who suffer. Sadly it is no longer seen as a "sacrosanct place", just a commercialised money making tourist attraction.

The rest of your post is spot on. Kan IS a beautiful province and the people are wonderful in the majority. 2006 - 2007 is the official "Visit Kanchanaburi" promotion so we are getting some welcome promotion for our little corner of the Kingdom.

2006 / 2007 - Visit Kanchanaburi

Come to Kan, welcome one and all..!!!

Dont go with a driver, go on a tour, I booked one on Khao san rd and it has to be the most memorable tours Ive ever been on ever.

One thing that sticks in my mind is that tiger temple your, I sugeest you take a proper tour and you wont be disapointed, i been on a few tours in my life in other countries too, but that one is one of the best Ive been on.

Trust me, go visit it, I would pay 1000 baht for the entry, its so much worth it and an experience of a lifetime

300 baht its $10 to me. Which buys a few beers at the local!

Great example of why prices are getting over-inflated - it's not The West here. :o

Same, same different year…… :D

kanchanaburi province is one of my favurite places in thailand and as someone said before maybe book a tour at apples. if no tour then sure try the food

tiger temple isn t my cup of rosie but took the missus and she loved it...

Well, well, well.

Fear and gloom also comes on this forum.

Kan is one of the most beautifully natural places in Thailand. Still plenty of jungle, free flowing rivers and great scenery.

There is no need to get a driver or book a tour from Bkk. It can all be done in Kan. There are a bunch of tour operators in town who have set tours which include the Tiger temple, and other attractions such as the waterfall, rafting and the railway.

The Tiger Temple while it has become 'commercialised' to an extent is still worth the experience. You get to sit and touch a real tiger and have your photo taken. It is a kind of open zoo with all kinds of animals.

Personally, not a big fan of Apple as a restaurant. Great service but they already know how 'farang' like their food, bland and watery. There are many alternatives closer to the river where the food is more authentic and the experience more Thai. Try Paa Eat (Eats Raft), Sudjai rest, or some near the bridge. An excellent Indian rest has sprung up, great food, Ali Bongo.

Disregard Udon. Selective memory and all that. Let him doze for a while, he will forget.

An unfortunate incident last year, and a previous blot on the police force maybe three years ago now.

A great place to chill out and have a greta couple of days.
