June 26, 201412 yr When I tried to order an Amazon Kindle online the cost of the kindle was $140. Thailand is apparently asking an additional $55 as an import tax. This is beyond stupidity of course as no sane person would pay $55 extra for a $140 item. Anyone out there know if or where one might be able to purchase a Kindle in Chiang Mai area? Thanks. Don't bother explaining the import tax reasoning. I am well aware reasoning here is non-existant. LOL
June 26, 201412 yr Try this link but probably no promotion. I haven't bought one from them but it is a pointer in the right direction. http://kindle-thailand.in.th/en/promotion/promotion-buy-kindle-touch-3g-give-free-gift-voucher-500-baht/
June 26, 201412 yr You don't need a Kindle to read books on Zon. Try this link - http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000493771 Anyone with a PC, laptop or smartphone can download and use the free app. Edited June 26, 201412 yr by Pattszero

June 26, 201412 yr I recently had to replace mine, just purchased and had it sent to a mate who was travelling to Thailand and he brought it with him. Saved a lot of hassle!!
June 26, 201412 yr Take a look here http://www.ebookreaderthailand.com/ I bought a Kindle Paperwhite from them just a few months ago. Despite the URL, this outfit is actually based in Hongkong. As an imported item, there is duty to pay but in my case it was only something like 300 Baht. No problem with the ordering or delivery (Fedex) and I had it within a week. The Paperwhite is excellent and the battery lasts for a couple of weeks between charges - and I use it a lot. The price that I paid was quite a lot less than buying from B2S. DM
June 27, 201412 yr I have been thinking about getting one of these but with so many to choose from I have not been able to decide... After reading the comments here I have decided to get the Paperwhite and have found an online price of 4,999 baht which sounds good. Only problem is I can't tell from the site whether the device is 'ad-free' or not. I am not familiar with the concept and was wondering if anyone had bought one with the promotions, were they annoying and could they be permanently disabled? The site is lazada.co.th - I have never used them but I believe there are good reports on tv. Edited June 27, 201412 yr by ParadiseLost

It is not a big deal as when it opens you get one page advert that is disposed of with a simple swipe. Not anything I worry about. Lefty
September 18, 201411 yr The annual busy season for tech gadgets continues on with Amazon, which announced a whopping seven new Kindle devices on Wednesday. All of the new gadgets, which were demonstrated for reporters at an event space in New York, are updates or new entries to the company's Fire tablet and Kindle e-reader lines. They can be pre-ordered starting Wednesday night, and they will ship sometime in October (Amazon declined to provide specific dates). Here's a quick rundown on Amazon's new product line, which now ranges from a $79 low-end e-reader to a $379 Kindle Fire HDX tablet. http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/gift-guide/amazon-unveils-seven-new-kindle-tablets-e-readers-n205686
December 8, 201411 yr Monday only U.S. time, Amazon is offering a half-off sale on their rarely discounted Fire HDX 7 in tablets with LTE in addition to wifi. Both 16 GB and 64 GB models on offer, with the 64 GB ones going for $159 today. That seems like a very good price based on their pricing history as far as I've been following it. Just a caveat: I don't own a Fire tablet nor an LTE one, so I can't speak to the compatibility issues between the Amazon LTE tablets and the current LTE data offerings in Thailand, which I gather are currently on the 850 and 2100 Mhz LTE bands.
