Has Thailand looked into the amount of children being trafficked across the boarder of Texas, and Mexico. Thousands of children are being trafficked daily. alt=cowboy.gif>

He obviously has no idea of what is going on there. Probably gets some sort of underground conspiracy based news paper.

There are people being paid money to get them across the border then they are on their own. Many know some one there.

the US government has backed them selves into a corner with all the dribble about democracy they can not very well back the junta even though it is bettering conditions here in Thailand. That says a lot about there aims. Obviously not peoples welfare. There decision to lower the rating was based on years of ignoring their warning. Now that there is a government who may take care of the situation and not justify it they can not back down. No matter how good things get here in Thailand before they return it to an elected government.

Remember when Palestine had an elected government and they refused to recognize it. They are still trying to rule the world. The big difference being they are not charging in unprepared to unwinnable wars. Milatary wise they are starting to back down.

so much of this if not all I disagree with...

but will stick to the US not saying Egypt's coup was a coup...but Thailand's was a coup.

or the US was behind the coup in Ukraine & installed neo nazis..as their puppets..but that was ok..because it was the US's coup..

the Russians are evil I guess would be the argument & Egyptians are nicer than Thai.

of course it's going to have serious effects on Thailand re. trade...that's why a list made up by the US has serious repercussions.

As the many posters here have said Thailand needs to know it's place in the world,that Thailand deserves it & hope there will be pain on the economy & the US & it's coalition will do it.

It's ok that the US is I believe the 3rd in the world for destinations for human trafficking, that they are tier 1 & no human trafficking problem or corruption connected there.

Or countries like Vietnam,Cambodia,Ivory Coast& others are only tier 2.

Obviously there is no connection of putting pressure on Thailand..

Thailand deserves it since they have the resources to deal with the problem...

not only that but there are brothels in Thailand...where women sell sex for money..

That would never happen in the West.

Well, I don't know about the assigning the label #3 to the US, but almost everything I've read on the subject seems to suggest that Americans are the largest purveyors of both porn and prostitution as well as the biggest consumers.

The point I'm trying to make is that the hypocrisy of some governments towards others (looking at you Uncle Sam) is astounding! They spout off about human rights when the issues they have in their own backyard is an order of magnitude worse than it is over here. How can I say that you ask? I say it from personal experience... I've travelled extensively throughout North America for the better part of the last two decades and have seen the scourge that is infecting American cities (some Canadian ones too).

At least in Thailand, they are open about the sex industry. It's not hidden in the shadows like it is in the western world. Countries like the US that espouse their self righteous BS about this country being a so-called "tier 3" country for human trafficking should get their own house in order before levying such claims. And those of you who think this problem is confined to countries like Thailand, please pull your head out of the sand because this issue is global, not regional.

Ive heard many people say the success of the junta will be based on economic terms and of course they are right.

Thaskin style populiust policies + declining exports + rising consumer debt = 1997 all over again.

Thakisn didn't come to power till 2001, and consumer debt wasn't an issue till 2005 so how was this 1997 (the period of the Asian Financial Crisis effecting more than just Thaialnd) all over again?

What 'populist policies' have the junta implemented?

Also, another substantial element is how much effort a country puts into preventing trafficking. Even the agencies in the US who are in charge of preventing it admit no government body had the ability to completely eliminate this.

The TIF report that is released by the US does not address the numbers of people but rather the effort a country puts into preventing the trafficking.

If you can show some actual statistics that the US is #2 in the world for human trafficking, I would be interested in seeing it.

Actually I said the US was #3 in the destinations list and I used "I believe"...so at the moment I can't find the link that I read...but it is in the top list for highest destinations & the list is alphabetical..so it's still up there. But considering it is well known that illegal aliens are entering the US everyday..I would guess to say many are being trafficked.

The argument could also be made that Thailand has less resources than the US.

The point is that it is the US that makes the list that can be damaging to the trade of a country....for ie..I have stated before the Ivory Coast actually uses child slaves for the growing of cocoa for chocolate..but they are tier 2.

Trafficking of course does not equate with smuggling and release. If you pay someone willingly to get you across a border you are not being compelled to do so.

The amount of people being forced into labour illegally in the usa without any escape is on reality very small. That doesn't change the fact that it happens, and don't underestimate the effort that the USA makes to prevent it.

That is the difference. Firstly an admission that it happens and secondly a zero tolerance for it legally and societally.

Thailand just needs to start locking people up regularly for using slave labour and the problem will be solved.

All Thailand has to do is sort itself out and police it properly with real long jail terms for perpetrators its not rocket science.

There is a world problem about human trafficking and slavery on the rise again since wealth distribution has gotten wider between the have somethings and have nothings.

No point harping on about the US and its problems... there are those far more concerning with the extreme form of trafficking and human lives being snuffed out on a whim... Thats the scale of it here in Thailand, all the country has to do is step up and deal with it.

Its totally stoppable and certainly can be hugely reduced in very short time if they wish... its all about the will to do so. Something that Thailand is at last being called to account for after many many years of doing nothing.

If some shrimps are from Thailand. Customer in Europe/USA will buy them the same as now. So the supermarket chains will order them.

Or is there more duty, now?

Colruyt and Carrefour, 2 of the largest supermarket chains in Belgium did boycott Thai shrimps the day after the Guardian published the article about the slavery, Colruyt immediately announced sending back the CP produce. The times are a changing.

Has he checked with all the fishing fleets in the land, before issuing this blanket denial? Has he sent inspectors out to inspect every boat? Nobody is employing illegal workers? That is a strong denial. I would certainly hope there are some facts to back it up. Before explaining to US consumers, I would want to have some facts to work with, and not just this mans request to revive his industry, back to the level it was at, prior to these developments. I understand Thailand is the worlds leading exporter of shrimp. That means it is a huge industry with thousands employed. None are illegal? If that is the case, this guy, and this group deserve some sort of award.

The navy are mentioned in reports referring to rohingya smuggling.

I am new here but has, this human trafficking only been happening since the military took over. If not maybe some of the blame should go to previous governments. From what I am reading on Thaivisa the military are doing an enormous amount of work to make Thailand a better place for everyone.

And if what you say is true and the USA is directly benefiting from such trafficking then Thailand has the right to impose sanctions, such as banning imports/exports with the USA.

As does the USA.

Unfortunately Thaivisa is not at liberty to post anything not complimentary about the junta.

If you are using here as your only news source I suggest you widen your search to paint a true picture of the situation.
