Documents for ILR

Featured Replies

Hi

I am just putting my wife's visa application together and I have booked the checking service .

When they sent a conformation letter they have a section on Documents and it says you can't use mobile phone bills . I was going to use mine as proof of address .

Has anybody used mobile phone bills before or what is the reason you can't use them ?

The proof of address issue is something they are very fussy about so try to cover all through her stay here and don't have big gaps between dates if you can. Didn't know mobile bills were not allowed though we did use them on settlement application 5 years ago. Put your application together with care and you'll be fine.

Hi

Thanks for the reply it's not my wife it's my side I have many internet accounts like broadband/ landline ect I've moved homes and soon as I changed my address my old address doesn't come up on the bills

My wage slips I've got 2012 and 2014 but in 2013 work decided to put the name of the job I was working on but I've got letters off the company in that year would they accept that ?

This is the first I have heard of mobile phone bills not being accepted as evidence of cohabitation; like liveforever we used them; but this was nearly 13 years ago.

Section 11, Note 8 of the form gives examples of acceptable documents (it says "telephone bills or statements" but doesn't specify that these must be landlines) and how many are needed. Note that while they must cover the whole 2 years, they only need to be from three separate sources.

If you are not sure about a document, then take more than are required from other sources and the checking service should tell you which are acceptable and which are not.

How can you have documents for the whole of the 2 years when you apply 28 days before the 2 years are up ?

You start collecting them at the start of the two years!

Ok, maybe you didn't know that you'd need them as you hadn't found about what was needed for ILR until now; but have you really thrown all your old bills, letters from government departments etc. and other documents suggested on the form away?

If you cannot supply enough documents covering the whole period then, as the form says

Please give an explanation on a separate sheet if you cannot provide 6 items; if the documents are not addressed to both of you; or if they do not cover the 2-year period. If you and your partner lived with relatives or friends for some or all of the 2-year period, please provide a letter from the relative(s) and/or friend(s) confirming this.

There are quite a number of situations where mobile phone bills are not accepted. Seems a bit strange as there is a credit check involved before a contract is agreed. If in doubt, include them but do not rely on them!

Doctors registration letters are a clincher! If working contact the tax office and request a confirmation of tax code.

They really are not asking for much!

I also went to my dentist and had receipts for check ups ect all reprinted for both of us over the years.
