"Dry cleaning" in small towns

What's up?

In Nan, a shop talked the talk - then confessed that they had just charged 5 x more for ordinary washing. In Lampang, I found a shop which did it - and prices were okay at about 50 B per shirt. But now, I'm very concerned as this small shop has

a) erratic pricing and B) charges only 20 B per shirt.

Some Thai "faux silk" shirt they wanted triple for. A jacket was only 60 B. And at 20 B, I can't see them even breaking even.

What is going on around here? Any insights? Would they ruin some cashmere coat to make a few Baht?!? Do they keep the solvent in buckets and do it all by hand? Can't see them use expensive professional machines...

On normal cleaning I saw some terrible jobs. Some pretty big dirt spot on a shirt after cleaning and they happily ironed over it...."burned it really in". Shirts missing buttons.

Wife gave for hand wash, it came back half the size most probably machined washed.....

So I don't trust anyone.
