I am nearing the last few days on my first entry of a double entry tourist visa and wanted to use a visa run company to go over the border so that I could get my second entry, but when I called to book my seat they said that the Cambodian border is closed and I should keep calling back until it's reopened. Does anyone know if this is true? It wasn't clear if she meant the entire border is closed or just at one point.

No that’s not the reason .The company probable couldn’t care less who got a visa or not, they will still get their money.

They will tell you it’s closed and tell you to ring back tomorrow because they don’t have enough customers to fill the van. They want to take you out of the market to try again with them tomorrow. But as usual it’s better to lie to you than admit they are not successful enough to fill a van full of people. And better to lie to you than you go with another company.

Even though it’s not their fault customer numbers have fallen, and we would completely understand. And if they talked straight we would wait if we had the time. This is how they think. Total and utter lack of respect for the customer.

There used to be casino buses leaving to Aran every day starting at 6:30 in front of Lumpini Park, across from the HSBC tower. The buses are confortable and way better than a mini van ride.

The border at poipet. This would be the most useful to me as it might help me enter Thailand without a plane ticket .

Or if not available online, perhaps where can I get a ticket for train or bus, from Bangkok, purchased several months in advance in Bangkok? I would ask a friend to buy it for me in Bangkok.

Why don't you get a tourist visa that would give you a 60 day entry that can be extend for 30.days at immigration. That way you would not need the ticket out of the country and would not need to do a border run for a new entry if that is what you have planned.

Forget about the visa run vans - I'd say DIY. If you don't have your own car or don't want to rent one, then try carpooling or take public transport to any one of the border crossings. Despite Aran/Poipet being the closest it's more of a hassle due to large crowds (in the past many Russians, South Koreans, some Filipinos and a few Laotians were crossing there but perhaps not so many anymore due to the increased scrutiny those nationals are facing now). Ban Laem, Had Lek, Ban Pakkard etc. are much quieter and more easy going although if you require a Cambodian visa then paying only the official prices of US$20 for a tourist visa or US$25 for a business visa is easy in Poipet but according to reports other crossings are more likely to overcharge you.

Yes the casino bus to Po Pet still is in operation at Ngam Wong Wan next to Pantip Plaza. It leaves at 4.45 am.
