Iran bought 800,000 tons of 100% white rice from Thailand year 2006

Iran has agreed to buy 800,000 tons of 100% white rice from the Thai private sector this year.

Pranee Siripan (ปราณื ศิริพันธ์), director of the Foreign Trade Department’s Grain and Conformity Trade Bureau, said Iran has already brought in 55%-60% of the total rice volume it agreed to purchase from Thailand in the first half of this year.

Mrs. Pranee said Iran importers have confidence in the quality of Thai rice and therefore have turned to buy it more from Thai exporters despite the fact that the prices were higher than that produced by other countries, such as Vietnam.

Price is not a problem as Iran is not facing financial difficulties, she added.
