Cooperation with US, Australia to continue
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Thailand continues to cooperate and engage with the US and Australia in military exercises despite their opposition to the May 22 power seizure, the junta's deputy spokesperson Colonel Sirichan Ngathong said yesterday.

The military exercises with the US, called Cobra Gold Balance Torch and Hanuman Guardian, were held as scheduled, she said.

Sirichan added that training with the US military on Counter Improvised Explosive Devices/Attack was held at the Directorate of Intelligence between May 29 and June 6.

The Thai and Australian military also trained together on Intelligence Preparation for the Battlefield as scheduled between June 9 and 20.

About 90 per cent of the cooperation and military exercises have continued as scheduled, she said.

Meanwhile Winthai Suvari, another deputy spokesperson, said the junta understood the reasons behind the decision on the guest list for the 4th of July celebrations.

He said the the US Embassy in Bangkok had to be careful about public functions at this period of time, adding that each country had its own rules and traditions on how they should behave in public.

The US Embassy marked independence day on Thursday night, but top military leaders were not invited.

However, former members of the Yingluck Shinawatra Cabinet attended the event.

the real story is hidden away underneath

what is on top is only for show

The question is , how much do you know.?

It is in the best interests of all countries to maintain communications , the why's and why-not for the reasons for the coup the countries concerned would have been briefed extensively, lets face it , the PTP hardly used democracy as a yard stick except to talk a lot about it, PTP never carried out its functions like a democratically elected government ,unless you call Thai democracy with a touch of corruption , democracy, some other issues also would have weighed in favour of Thailand , when the real facts were fully known.coffee1.gif

That's an insult to the military government that won't be forgot quickly.

The American government made it clear from the day of the coup that they did not accept the military dictatorship in Thailand, did you really expect them to be invited to tea?

I shouldn't think they are remotely bothered.

The OP gives a quite different impression.

Seems like there's an understanding that countries operate on few parallel levels,

and that public displays and announcements notwithstanding, some essential things

go on pretty much as usual.

But they're happy to invite a former finance minister who openly admits to lying and sees nothing wrong in that.

He should fit right in with his hosts.

Much to the displeasure of the British, the policy of allowing Thailand to do as it pleases has not changed since the Japanese surrendered almost 70 years ago. Why?, America and Australia cannot afford to have Thailand fall to prey of the “communists" which if you look at the region today that risk is still a distinct possibility.

The USA have made no secrets who they support regarding Thailand and that is the red shirt terrorist movement the the Shiniwatra dynastic system.

As usual the US get it totally wrong when meddling in other nation's politics. I am glad they are now being ganged upon by the rest of the world and I am going to really enjoy that country collapse into the dust in the coming years.

Thailand had better get ready to become more involved with the Chinese, because the USA and the EU are about to be pulled apart and soon will have zero influence anywhere in the world.

The US typically sides with the most corrupt, least moral, and foulest party available, as long as it suits their political interests. So, of course they side with the Shinawatra clan. This makes absolute sense, and is in keeping with a long standing American govt. tradition of befriending rats and swine. Let is maintain the tradition. Let us not evolve or improve. Why on earth would Blundering Barry Obama do anything smart, progressive, edgy, or correct? Why change things now?

With Saudi Arabia as friends and what happens in Ukraine really everyone should know that what the USA does has nothing to do with Democracy....Money, Oil, Domination....

I expect the US Generals are still talking to the Thai Generals and that's what counts. The State Department is filled with fluff.

How's that, Baboon?

Actually I don't watch ANY American news at all, and you won't find the real news following that bunch of government controlled nonsense peddlers.

There are much more worthy places to get the news that don't serve the US government agenda.

You clearly don't know where to look for the real news if you haven't heard of the 133 country alliance or G77 poised to bring down the USD and the US economy with China, Russia and India the three biggest players.

The USA is on borrowed time.

133 / G77 report:

"They’ve had enough of the New World Order. And an alliance of 133 countries, two-thirds of the nations on Earth, signed an agreement this weekend to end the West’s New World Order and replace it with a fair, honest and legitimate World Order - one that lets everyone participate and benefit, not just the super rich"

You actually believe this BS...lol

The previous Thai govt a few years ago knocked back a US request to use a Thai airport to conduct "climate research". Remember that? It'll be interesting to see what happens now. Might surprise a few people that US Thai relations now have actually improved after all. "But I read in the paper that......blah blah."
