Website or blog?

Featured Replies

I have a lot of western food recipes etc but they do take up a lot of space especially if there are a lot of photos.

If I want to send somebody some information it is difficult to post 200 mB on a Thai visa thread for example.

I have a Google Drive and I suppose I can use that but perhaps not everybody has that or would even want that.

What would be my best option and how would I go about it?

Thank you for any information.

I am not too sure how to use Google Drive for this purpose but I know I can use Dropbox to store the files in a folder and send someone a link to the folder in question. Perhaps you can try this, too.

If the recipes are all in Word (or similar), try converting them to .pdf format first as that usually makes them a whole lot smaller, emailable, etc..

Thanks to both of you for that information.

I have just found dropbox that I downloaded a while ago and had no idea what to use it for.

I will also compare a word file and a the same thing in pdf tomorrow.

You can also sign up with mega.co.nz and get 50Gb free. I've used their storage to share home movies and large picture albums with friends and family. It will allow you to create a link to your files which you can share.

Mega.co.nz? Is that mega as in megaupload?

OP, it's not completely clear what you're trying to achieve.

Do you want people to be able to read the recipes as web pages with embedded images?

Or do you simply want to be able to link to individual files which people then download?

The topic title tends to suggest the former.

Amy online file storage will do the job. They all have share/link functions for letting other take a look Google Drive, DropBox, Box. One Drive. Most are free.

Yes and no. Megaupload is dead since 2 years. But Mega is the new service by the same very famous Mr Dotcom himself.

Picasaweb.google.com and use picasa or web interface to upload, you get free space, if your feeling confident and want a blog install wordpress on your website and use themeforest.net to get a good template

Basically I would like to share what I have in the way of recipes with anybody who would be interested and hopefully they could load their recipes to mine under their name and we/I could end up with a good collection for anyone to access.

If you want to share freely, then using WordPress with a suitable recipe plug-in would be the way to go. However, this involves significantly more effort than simply providing a directory with lots of files that can be downloaded.

If the existing recipes are maintained with one of the recipe database programs, then it may be possible to import them into WordPress relatively easily. Otherwise it's a lot of hard work cutting and pasting.

An example of a page that uses such a plug-in is http://shesimmers.com/2014/05/chilled-tapioca-cantaloupe-coconut-milk-dessert-soup-สาคูแคนตาลูป.html#more-5623

Thank you very much for your kind and good suggestions.

Mmmmm I am basically a bit old and lazy so I will have to think that one through a bit more carefully.

Too old? No, you cannot be too old. Until you are dead. As for being lazy, give yourself some motivation by thinking of all the sweet young things who will be drooling over your recipes. Anyway, if you feel that Wordpress is a bit too much work, opt for Blogger instead. It works with less work, on your part. I have a friend who does something similar here:
