I often see the large Achinata snails, and so I askedf the wife if Thais eat them. She said (quite disgustedly) "No!".

These Thai natives are farmed in Europe for eating.

Something I read about them is they are very high protein and contain all the amino acids a human needs....just the thing for body builders.

Has anyone thought of farming them for export to Europe?

Does anyone think a market could be created here? Perhaps first off marketing them to farang body builders that come here to gorge on chicken breasts.

Quite an interesting topic. Obviously Thais are reluctant to eat but seem to prefer for beauty treatment.

But might it be of interest, to discuss this with farang chefs of restaurants with international/french cuisine to put escargots in chili garlic on their menu? I could imagine quite a few tourists would love to order them for a starter.

There are 2 booklets in the FAO "Better Farming" series about snail farming. Google and you can download them.

For export, it would take quite a long time, so top restaurants in the big Thai tourist centres may be an option.
