Thailand and South Korea sealed a deal on quality and safety control of marine products

Thailand and South Korea have signed an agreement accepting controls of quality and safety of fisheries products and imports and exports by both countries.

Agriculture and Cooperatives permanent-secretary Banpot Hongthong (บรรพต หงษ์ทอง) said exporters and factories must register with the Fisheries Department for the right to have their farms and products certified for their quality and safety so their exports do not have to be checked again at customs checkpoints in South Korea.

Mr. Banpot said the same rules apply to exportation of South Korea’s fisheries products to Thailand.

He said the agreement, to be in effect after July 27, will enable Thailand to increase its exports to South Korea, which is now buying Thai marine products worth 4-5 billion baht annually.
